I usually run this thing [AR15], but this year I am proudly walking the entire 10k course [Flower]. Not a single step running is planned [Tooth].

I'll be accompanying a daughter, a nephew, a niece, a wife, and another daughter and son-in-law -- with my twin granddaughters [GaGa].

I've been wanting to do this for a few years, but every time it comes around, I'm not prepared to do it.

Half the field never runs a step; they walk the entire 6 miles. There are official water and Gatoraid stations along the route, and even eggs, beer, and bacon (better be quick for the bacon!) served from homes along the route. I saw a guy one year pulling an oxygen tank on a cart up the hill into the stadium at the end.

Seriously, I have no idea what the signup deadline is, but even if this year is too late, just go for it next year, and do a little walking to prepare. "Oh yes you can!" is the race motto, and I think it's a pretty good one.

Also, the loony entertainment along the way is worth it all by itself. And after the citizens run is the pro race, with Olympians and record holders running for their countries and cash prizes. Just before the pro race, skydivers land in the stadium -- the last one trails an American flag -- and then there's an Air Force flyover. It's a nice Memorial Day tribute -- in Boulder of all places. Really, the hippies are vocal but they're not everyone.

Okay, enthusiastic sales pitch OFF. Enjoy the weekend.
