Soldier in Iraq Loses Home Over $800 Debt

Capt. Michael Clauer's homeowners' association foreclosed on his family's $300,000 house and sold it for $3,500. The buyer then resold the house to a third person. <-- They forgot to mention the 'third person' is the company who owns the HOA management company.
Fuck the HOA and the greedy mofo who did this. Unfortunately, lately it's becoming more common for the HOA boards to sell a 'foreclosured prop' to one of their family members and he/she sells it back to the HOA for upto 1000x the price to make a quick buck.
This is the premise of the movie House of Sand and Fog. VERY fucked up situation.
What a bunch of scumbags. HOA's are always bullshit it seems.
Had the wife not had her head up her ass it never would have happened.
I know it's not what you all would like to hear, but it's the truth and I'm an asshole.

I agree, opening the damn mail could've probably prevented this whole thing, but you can't tell me that some people in your neighborhood who think they have some authority over you just foreclosing on your home and selling it to themselves for nothing is legit.
On a lighter note about HOAs check out this letter:

I hate HOA's. When I worked day shift I would always get calls from HOA's wanting me to enforce their rules. I would constantly get into fights with HOA presidents, that I only enforce city laws, not HOA rules.
I once gave a ticket to a lady that was hired to give HOA tickets to vehicles that were parked in violation of HOA rules but weren't in violation of city or state law. She ran a red light, and I was happy to give her the ticket, she cried, my life was better, and I wanted to let all the members of that neighborhood know. We also towed her car once because she had a revoked license.
I am happy to say that I don't have an HOA in my neighborhood and think it is ridiculous at the kind of stuff they do AND get away with. Something HAS to be done.
Bunch of dipshits with a false sense of power. Get a hobby or something is all I can think. My buddy's dad lives in an HOA neighborhood and decided to put up a terrace-like enclosure on his porch with vines growing all over it. Long story short the house looks 100x nicer but the HOA won't stop harassing him to take it down because it doesn't fit in.
When we lived in Florida our HOA president lived three doors down from us, that was a nightmare. Just before we moved to Colorado we decided to touch up the paintjob on the house, and found out while the painters were actually working that to paint the house the same color that it is already you have to submit a request to the architectural committee six weeks in advance. Fortunately my wife was on the verge of a nervous breakdown at the time with all the stress of moving so she cried on the doorstep and they let us submit an emergency request :D
Our HOA here is pretty handsoff in comparison, although they did send us a letter recommending a company to aerate the lawn then told us off when the same company left a sign on the lawn after doing it.

Nonsense! I have multiple rentals and have to deal with HOA constantly. Most whom I know personally would use their COMMON SENSE before anything else. This is a scam. They failed to do their due diligence. You do not go to the court and foreclose a free and clear $300000 property on a $800 debt. Anyone with the right mind who wants to avoid a lawsuit would slap a lien instead.
It's not even legal technically due to his deployment status.

This is so true, but...

If this is true, and if this all occured while he was deployed, the Capt has legal recourse through the Soldiers & Sailors Civil Relief Act.
