I am wondering if there is anyone in the denver metro area who has done a indepth study of off the shelf 10mm ammo? To to test things like velocity and accuracy (50-100 yards). If not I am proposing to anyone who whould like to bring a 10mm gun and lets run some tests. I can meet you at any range in the denver metro, aurora, commerce city, boulder area. I will bring a chronograph, a rest targets, camera, etc. I will also bring some off of the shelf ammo. All you have to supply is the gun!

I am try to compose this test to see the true strengths of the 10mm, and to possibly convince myself to by a 10mm gun. I would be comparing this in the fashion of 10mm vs 40s&w, 45 acp+p, .45 super, 460 rowland. I would like to know if all of the claims on youtube and most of the forums of the internet are true. But mostly I am interested on this information because I am in the mood for a new caliber and I have a couple magnum calibers (357, 44) and would like to add another. The two final choices I have to buy are 460 rowland or the 10mm.

As a tried and true member of the 10mm club I will state that most of the off the shelf ammo is neutered and barely more than the 40S&W. Most of the off the shelf ammo is close to published data in my experience. That said, there is some ammo that is truely what they claim and then some. Double Tap Ammo.. http://www.doubletapammo.com/php/catalog/index.php?cPath=21_25
Of course you can always reload to those levels.
I have had no trouble replicating published data with Double Tap ammo through my chrono from a Gen 2 G20. Second closest velocity is Hornady.

No contest. 460 Rowland is one bad ass round.
I would be game... have a new Tanfoglio Match- I just need the UPS man to deliver my 20lb spring and a few things from Hennings. I ran a few rounds of old UPC ammo through it- seemed pretty tame from what I remember my Delta Elite to be like.
Maybe someone could also drop in with a 10mm carbine for some good info as well...my mp5/10 will be awhile before it is back to me.

IMHO 10mm is the best auto loader cartridge ever. but DAMN does 460rowland do some work. id like to get into one of those sometime soon..

Original ammo, and it's a 1330fps 200gr through the chrono from my Glock.
The winchester silvertip stuff is close, around 1200, but only 180gr.
Hornay was good accuracy wise, but weaker at around 1150.
Everything else was around 1050fps.
Don't know the doubletap stuff someone keeps talking about, I used to buy from Mullen's Ammo, and it was true 10mm.
Lots of small ammo manufacturers will make it to your spec, you just gotta ask!
Buy the book Stopping Power. It is a very good resource for the questions and answers you want. It goes through almost all pistol caliber and does some rifle and shotgun calibers.
Here is an Amazon link to the book I am talking about:

You must be lucky... I have run 3 boxes of Double Tap Ammo thru my chrono and it has yet to match their claims. In fact, it's been equal to, or less than most of the factory 10mm out there. [Bang]
