View Full Version : Time for an instant replay in baseball?
I thought for sure someone would have posted this already, but it didn't happen so I'll do it.
Armando Galarraga lost a perfect game because of a blown call. Think it's time for an instant replay in baseball?
Also, do you think selig should overturn the blown call?

I watched this this morning on all the news. Replay shows he was out and the umpire admitted and apologized later for his mistake. It should be overturned no doubt about it.
Maybe do it like football and give the coaches one or two flags to use in a game. But if they tried to review every call that was argued games would go on so much longer than they already do.
IMO, instant replay should SHORTEN the playing time, rather than lengthen it. No damn arguing and dirt-kicking about it, "looky there...see? He's OUT! Now STFU and get back on your bench. NEXT BATTER!"
Yeah, they should overturn the call.

i agree, it should get overturned and they should have been able to review it and this wouldnt be the black eye for MLB that it is now
I don't know but this obviously requires the attention of a congressional inquiry.....

To the OP, not only no but HELL NO!
The call was made on the field. Was it a bad call, yep. Does it suck, yes. But that's baseball. I don't want to see it go the way of every other sport where you take 20 minutes to review ten plays a game. Baseball is so bang bang that you would spend two hours reviewing plays. I'm not even a huge fan of the home run replay.
You can't overturn the call either. That opens up a huge can of worms.

+1.
Part of the game. Sometimes an umpire gets it wrong. Outcome of the game was not affected. Not about one player or about one umpire. Part of the mystique of the game is the judgement factor.
LOL, Baseball is so boring that you need to keep the bad calls to make it interesting.

AMEN! Stuart hit it right on the head.
I can appreciate the intricacies of baseball, but I don't have the patience and focus to watch long enough to care.

These.. I'm glad He didn't give into the pressure to change it. If He had, might as well as toss out keeping track of the score. That way everbody wins.. Whoopie.. Heck, after watching the replay, I'm about 51/49% the runner was safe.
The only two that have shown any class during the entire thing, are the pitcher and the umpire.

Well said, both of those men have shown uncommon integrity.
