I have a chronic condition and I am in a lot of pain. I have ulcerative colitis and I have stomach cramps that are associated with it. I am in a great deal of pain and wanna know how you guys do it without any pain meds. Doc wont give me pain meds because it isnt how she likes to treat my disease. I know that it doesnt hinder the healing process for me and doesnt have anit inflammitories.
Anyone have any solid advice on dealing with pain. FWIW I was awake all night due to the paina nd slept maybe 2 hours.

And no I am not a pain med junky and that isnt why the doc wont give me any as I have never asked for them before and recently had a wisdom tooth out and only took the pain meds for a few days then got rid of them.

I have a fairly decent pain threshold to where I can just ignore most pain, BUT when the pain is severe enough to cross that line, I take medication.

I think it's time to find another doctor that doesn't subscribe to the Dr. Joseph Mengele school of patient care.

What sucks is it is a Gastro specialist close by and convenient.

2nd that-it's time to get a second opinion-I can't tolerate pain meds very well so I usually go without unless necessary. Good luck and keep us posted.[Beer]

The Great Spirit has blessed me with alot of pain.. so i just live wit it.
One day it will gone.

However natural relievers like white willow bark, honey, work but only after you get it into your system.
Research natural and herbal cures youd' be surprised at some of the stuff that works.

Medical Marijuana.

I'm very serious.

You don't even have to pick up smoking, you can get all the medication in edibles. What other medication comes in brownies, cookies, ice cream, pizza, soda pop, etc?

Take it before bed so you can sleep. Much better than alcohol and you won't wake up hung over.

Y'all may think I'm nuts.. but see a good Chiropractor.. I have had some GI tract issues cured by chiropractors... there could be a tension or pinched nerve issue that you're not aware of that is the cause..

But you have to find a good one (somewhere between the ambulance chasers that have agreements with lawyers and want you on a maintenance "schedule", and the ones that are into eastern religions and "Chakras" there are some that know what they are doing) Look for an "NSA" Chiropractor.. stands for Network Spinal Analysis.. Last 2 NSA Chrio's I've seen have been excellent. (I don't do schedules, go maybe 3-4 times a year)

I can suggest some in Colorado Springs or Canon City.. but I don't know any in Denver... of course, I don't know where you're located.

I'd slap your doc and tell her to give you some drugs.

If taking a pain pill would react with your condition and kill you, that's one thing. But not getting relief because a doc "doesn't like to work that way"... bullshit. there is no reason to suffer if you don't have to.

(to put this in perspective, I have a much more favorable opinion of police than I do doctors)

That's saying something since Doctors never go online and whine about people criticizing them. I'm a big fan of fat doctors that instruct you to take better care of yourself and/or base their assessment of your health by what a BMI chart says.

Thanks for all the replys. My doc says that with UC the pain meds can hinder healing of my large intestine in long run. I'm talking a few days of relief for strong reg meds to take effect. Fuck her and her no pain having body.

If you want a good one in the Denver area, let me know. He also does acupuncture which he learned while living in Japan.

I might hit you up for that guy's info some time SA Fryday.

Gloria used to go to this one guy on a recommendation from her friend. Last time Gloria's friend was there, the guy kissed her on the mouth TWO TIMES in the middle of the procedure and acted like it was nothing. I'm still pissed at her for not immediately calling the police, Tom Martino, and every news station. I asked for the guy's name so I could do it myself but they won't give it to me! WTF!

fergot about AP, it definately works for just about anything.

And if i am correct, you cannot have a CCW if you have a MMJ med. prescript.

Definitely find a new doc. I hope you are on meds for the original condition. As it comes under control the pain might & cramping might diminish. You might want to see if you can work with a pain clinic.

Blame some of this doctor behavior on the war on drugs. When I was young I got some food poisoning that gave me cramps that felt like I was about to do that scene in Alien. I was given an opiate drug, I think Paregoric that really calmed it down. Doctors that prescribe opiates get a lot of legal scrutiny so they avoid them.

I have a nasty arthritis that can be painful. I take some industrial strength meds to reduce the inflammation which cuts the pain a lot. I do take some serious pain meds that help a lot but they wipe me out so much I can't do anything.

Good luck & hope you feel better,
Steve

FWIW, there is nothing wrong with having to depend on medicine/pain killers.

For a year after my car wreck, I was still prescribed pain meds in decreasing value. Now I'm "drug free" lol, yes, I still have some pain, but I've learned to make it manageable. There is hope. Find a different doc.

I'm not a fan of the MMJ and would never use it, but if you have no prob with it, check it out. There have been great results for some people. Just do your research first.

Mtn. Man is right. Long story short it may be legal state wide but it is still not legal federally and You're name gets on the medical MMJ list (which gets posted to the feds. ) and You have to go through an FFL federal BGC They will tag You and turn down the BGC.

And I have to agree again with Mtn. Man on His suggestion try white willow bark there is also some stuff called Nonie Juice which tastes like Dog S**T but it is a natural remedy that is about 75% as affective as morphine for pain ( for allot of folks Me included ) and it Won't get You all loopy You just have to get the pure ( expensive ) kind.

Hope You get it worked out.

So basically I like having a CCW so MMC is out of question. I dont like the effects either. I have tried the white willow bark and honey.....about 8 months worth and didnt have any effects except no allergies that year. I tried vegetarian and probiotics and nothing worked. I honestly have found that beef is a huge helper. Not sure why but it is. Alos high fibar helps but kills the wife with farts. HAHAHAHAHA
APpreciate all the advice, and as for pain meds, I dont know why doc wouldt give me any for a week so the cramps go away. Flares are rare with me as my regular meds work well. Not sure why I am flaring as I have not changed my diet or intake at all. Who knows. Appreciate all the advice and I may try a chiropractor or acupuncture.
Thanks Guys [Beer]

i dont take anything for the pain. but i take between 12 and 17 pills aday for the colitas. loperamide, dyclomine, omeprazole. i dont leave the house much because of it. and when i do i double up on the medication.

i have had my colonscopys done each time without any pain medication or being put under. and the pain associated with that is nothing as bad as my cramping. i havent personally had a knife stuck in my stomach, but i imagine my cramps feel like a knife plunged into my stomach and twisted and turned and pushed in and out. so i feel for you.

Yeah, I think a second opinion is in order for some conventional pain meds. But also, see a good chiropractor. I used to think chiropractic medicine was bullshit until sciatica put me down back in 2002. Chiropractor did what orthopedic specialist could not. It seems a little hokey, but it works.

Chiropractor's rock... my hands would fall asleep during the day or when I was riding my dirtbike. I started seeing a Chiro 3 times a week for about six months, started to go less as I got better. Felt amazing after visits, more energy, no more arms fallin asleep, and just felt better all around. I would highly recommend a chiropractor. ( can be pricey, but worth it.)
