Well here is my AAR after getting blasted with the firehose of gunfighting knowledge that is an EAG class.....
First a HUGE thank you to Pat,Mike,Donna,Jeff C and all the rest who helped me,either get to be there or learn there.
Also another Big Thank You to the companies who donated gear to the class.
A little about me. Im a machinist for a carbon fiber R&D shop here in CO. This was my first real class of any kind.
My gear: A supposed 1k round count used BCM 16" mid length with a new LMT BCG, BCM medium gunfighter CH, no rail, no optic,no light, mounted to a stag lower with a 6 pos stock.
No failures from either the upper or the lower.
The only problems I had were, the CH hit the top of the stock, easy file fix, and the sharp edges around the outside of the stock, again easy file fix, finally the stock is slippery and doesn't stick in place. NON of this accounts for my terrible shooting. Big Grin
I used a padded Vtac tac sling. Worked great.
Pat lent me an Aimpoint T1, awesome. My first real use of an RDS. I will be buying one as soon as funds allow. Ordered ! woohoo!
For mags I almost exclusively used Tangodown ARC mags. Flawless. That is what I could get ahold of before the class I had less than a weeks notice I was GTG for it. I also used a couple new Pmags as well, also flawless.
I used an Eagle Ind universal chest rig, worked fine, the only problem I had was the outermost pouches are for a radio
or some similar item and I had to secure them up with zip ties so as to not be in the way of my pistol.
Pat lent me a CSM ? dump pouch, worked great.
I carried my Sig GSR 1911 commander in a fobus paddle holster because that is what I could get my hands on for the class.
No problems with either. Winchester white box ball ammo no problems.
Carbine ammo was 1k 55gr BVAC from surplusammmo.com, zero problems. 200rds ?gr prvi no problems. 200rds 55gr federal from Walmart.

Overall this was an awesome experience. Pat said "You were this far in over your head, but you handled it."
In light of this I would reccomend to any other first timers to take a basic carbine course to start with then work up to this and so forth.
Learn the basics, I hadn't yest learned and perfected them and it caused me some struggles. Trigger control, figure out the right length that works on the stock for you, work on keeping the carbine up and eyes on target when mag changing, breathing, stance,be in your own bubble, this isn't a competition to see who can miss the fastest.
I am very glad the class size was as small as it was as I got more one on one help than I would have otherwise.
If you think you need training, DO IT! If you Dont think you need training DO IT anyway.

looks like fun!
Nice FN SCAR-L there.
H.
I haven't seen a lot of those... did they turn out to be all they were hyped up to be?
Still a price point problem I guess?
I think those little telephone cord lanyards are just silly.
That is to prevent you from being embarrassed when your gun goes flying across the court when you do a sick dunk from the 3 point line.
Not really into being in a line with a bunch of other people blasting away...
Ditto... however, if there were an obstacle course somewhere in there, I just may have to partake.
Clarification: A REAL obstacle course... not running up to yellow line, sticking gun through hole, firing two rounds anywhere on target at 10 yards, for time qualifications...
Real Course: Crawling through a 5 foot pipe underwater in full gear with rifle ready, mobanzique drill 3 targets in water upon exit, spar a dummy (or person) on hand techniques with knife, get over a wall topped with constantine wire, use pistol to engage 6 spread targets (double tap each) at varying distances from 5 yards to 25. Take some monkey bars or a rope course heading UP, and end course by breaching door with shotty and repelling down tower... THAT would be something I'd be interested in....
But in any case... any training (done right) is good training. I'd have fun just standing there blasting away too to be honest....

ok so the air ninja pistol telephone cord is not a concern for me, but I want all the rest of that gear

Surefire M300 mini-Scout. I'm really diggin this light. Takes one CR123 battery. Lightweight, compact, puts out a lot of light for it's size, and doesn't take up much real estate:

Meh, I'm too old and fat for ninja training.
Lol, dind't mean to upset anyone. I'm too out of shape for "ninja training" as well.... but boy I think it'd be fun to try runnin' n gunnin' instead of line shoots... [Beer]
Nice pics... I want to try ninja training.[Coffee]
No offense to any of you who are not into this type of hard training, but Pat Rogers is a hell of a guy and by all accounts (and limited if any open spots in his classes anywhere) a hell of an instructor. This is not a go stand on the line and just put holes in paper class that you might have taken to get your CCW, this is a course of instruction that will teach you how to really use and drive your AR platform and then some.
While you see a good deal of folks "geared up" in many of the class photo's, realize that a significant number of those folks use and rely on their weapons for a living. Passing judgment on the experience and class just based on the pictures isn't really an informed opinion. Take some time and look up some of the previous reviews (ala AAR's) that Jeff (USMC03) has posted for us here. I think you might be surprised and what all they accomplish and cover in a mere 3 days.

To get those shots, the person taking the pics would be on the other side of the range, slightly in front of the line and zoom in with a telephoto lense. Nothing unsafe is ever done in a class.

Uh huh. Look at the photographer in the last photo right above here.
He's on line with the shooter, it looks like he's forward due to the angle of the pic.
If you don't have anything constructive to say or anything to add to the coversation, please don't post in this thread.
Thus far, your comments have not been relevant to this post and resemble something that a teenager would post, not a grown man with grandchildren.
If this kind of training isn't for you, fine. Move on to the next post. I'm sure others are here to learn.
Thank you

Ok. So here's the deal.
I can attest to Jeff's safety and the safety of classes he has taught or helped sponsor. I can say the same for Pat Roger's and the way he teaches. They would not do anything unsafe. Camera angles may be deceiving.

XGEP rocking Pat's BCM "Filthy 14" Mid-Length. This gun was used in the 2009 Pueblo West class as well. The gun currently has over 36,000 rounds on it. Consider that's over 36,000 rounds being run in classes (every 3 days this gun has 1,300 to 1,500 of hard use rounds down range in a training enviornment). Kind of cool to see the same gun being used in a class a year later:

Thank you! That's a solid rifle for sure; and here I was thinking my 6920 was the shiz with close to 7k trouble free rounds down the pipe.
I have 3 Colt LE6920's (purchased 2003 / 2004) and they are a great gun. Colt is the gun by which all other manufactures are judged. BCM is of equal quality, cheaper, and the options are endless (barrel lengths, gas system choices, rail choices, etc). With Colt you have 4 or 5 different configurations choices. (20" rifle, 16" carbines, 11.5" short barreled rifle) .... Last time I counted BCM's configuration choices was a few months ago and there were over 115 different configuration choices at the time (11.5" SBR, 12.5" SBR, 14.5" carbine, 14.5" mid-length, 16" carbine, 16" mid-length, 18" rifle, 20" rifle, rails installed by VTAC, LaRue, Daniel Defense, Knights Armament Company, Mid-West Industries, Troy Ind., SS410 stainless steel barrels, standard barrels, cold hammer forged barrels, etc, etc, etc)

LOL... I remember that video from Tac Response.
I first thought it was some kinda hoax or prank. Sadly, it was for real.
The CEO of that academy tries to justify the action was a very low risk (forgot what %) it is.
I don't care it is 1% or 0.001%. It is like trying to cross I-25 full of drunk driver at midnight , even when there is a overhead bridge cross on top.
There used to be a trainer, that would stand next to the target while his students shot at it. He said it helped him maintain his "warriors edge."

I saw the blood on his face in some of the earlier pics and was wondering just what had happened to him but figured it must be a par for the course to get a little blood drawn so I never asked.

Jeff, Devil Dog, I am noticing a disturbing trend in these photos...........................
too many photos of men posing with guns. as a Marine I would think you might have some pictures of women (good looking) with guns. I am wondering whats going on.

Is this the Elcan with the 1 to 4x toggle lever?
H.
Yes it's a 1-4x Elcan ... he later switched to an Aimpoint.
The guys that wear suits and work back in the Investigations Bureau often refer to this kind of thing as "A clue" ;)
When I look at these pictures I'm left with one thought. That's a lot of money in guns and gear out there. If you can afford the gear, you should be able, and should require yourself, to afford the training.
Someday I'll practice what I preach.

Not sure I follow? The Elcan is too large/heavy? I'd like to have a red-dot with optional 4x zoom on my rifle, and the two options I've seen seem to be this Elcan and the dual red dot/scope setup that we see a number of in these images. Weight is a priority issue, but so is a great sight picture.
H.
You will always be faster with a non magnified red dot than you will with a magnified optic (even at 1x).
I used a S&B Short Dot (1.1-4x) for SWAT for a couple years. I'm back to using Aimpoints.
Instead of fighting his gear, the student opted to go with an Aimpoint.

The hadji rag? It keeps brass off you, too. ;)
Ah, thxs Driftwood. I didn't know the proper term or reasoning. When I was working the farm before the grandparents died, we (dad, brother and I) always wore our bandanas around our neck to help keep cool. Didn't know if the "hadji" served the same purpose.
That black SCAR at the top of this page looks nice... The only "weird" thing to me is that the 6 inches or so of barrel sticking out from the block don't look aethstically "pleasing"... but I guess a battle rifle is not supposed to look good huh? HA. Anyone have first hand experience with them? How do they run? Do anything better than a regular Ar15, etc?

About the rag thingy. I wear one. But it is so my delicate neck skin is not burned to a crisp by the hot Colorado Sun. I need to keep my pretty neck in tact so I won't appear inferior when seen by the spousal unit. (And I have this skin condition - seriously - that gets worse when I'm burned.) So for me its added protection that sunscreen doesn't give me. Don't know about cooler.

theyre nice, but in my opinion not worth the price tag for what you get. when they were originally going to come out they looked like not only way better than a regular ar15 but at a fair price. then bushmaster got a hold of them and the price went up and the benefits went down. still nice to have, but not amazingly better. of course you can probably say the same thing about almost every type of weapon and every type of accessory. it all depends on your point of view and what you like
