Warning that appears on Wilder Publications' reprints of the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and other historical texts.

A small publishing company is under fire after putting warning labels on copies of the U.S. Constitution, Declaration of Independence and other historical documents.
Wilder Publications warns readers of its reprints of the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, Common Sense, the Articles of Confederation, and the Federalist, among others, that “This book is a product of its time and does not reflect the same values as it would if it were written today.”
The disclaimer goes on to tell that they "might wish to discuss with their children how views on race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and interpersonal relations have changed since this book was written before allowing them to read this classic work."
Walter Olson, senior fellow at the Cato Institute, says the company may be trying to ensure that oversensitive people don't pull its works off bookstore or library shelves.
"Any idea that’s 100 years old will probably offend someone or other," Olson told FoxNews.com. "…But if there’s anything that you ought to be able to take at a first gulp for yourself and then ask your parents if you're wondering about this or that strange thing, it should be the founding documents of American history."

Fuck if you don't want to print it, then don't print it.

The other day I took my neighbor over to this little old lady's house where he recently bought a car, to pick up his other car. She has an 8' tall plaque on the FRONT OF HER HOUSE of the Ten Commandments. It looks like a home converted into a business until you realize what it is.

What an insult to the reader. If you fear your readers are so stupid that you need to put a disclaimer on a historical document, then you need new readers.

I take offense to their idea that someone might take offense.

Perhaps I can offer another point of view on this subject.

What if, the publisher added the disclaimer as a form of sarcasm against the oversensitivity of the lib's there days.

People might get offended by "all men are created equal" if they think that man refers to the sex rather than a member of humanity in general. I never underestimate the stupidity of people anymore and apparantly the publisher doesn't either.

I truly believe our freedoms are in full meltdown mode. This kind of stance ("oh those documents are old and don't apply anymore") is being taken waaaayyyy too much on every issue. It's exactly how our rights will be usurped in the not too distant future.

The best thing to do IS warn your children, warn them of the types of people with no respect for what this country is all about, warn them to be leery of anyone claiming that their rights are outdated and not practical.

Well if it bothers then enough that they feel the need to add a fucking disclaimer, then perhaps they shouldn't be looking to make money off the documents that are the corner stone of OUR country..

What a bunch of oxygen thieves

What's sad is that this mentality also transfers to basic moral principles like the ten comandments...

WTF,

I will make my kids read it. I have a full copy of it as an application on my droid phone.

I would really like to get it on a pdf and start it up as a mass email to be sent around the country.

And yes, I hope it offends some people.

My favorite part is that they claim copyright and say it cannot be reproduced without express, written permission on a 200 year old document they copied.

Yeah, considering it's public domain...[ROFL2]
