View Full Version : Magpul Quadstack Magazine patent
http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2010/06/08/magpuls-quad-stack-magazine/
Here's patent filing by Magpul for an AR compatible quad-stack magazine. It keeps the STANAG profile until below where the magwell ends and flares out. If nothing else, I can tell you they will be: pricey
H.
This has been tried in the past by several companies. The issue always comes down to feeding problems and reliability. I'll be interested to see if they can iron those problems out.
If anyone can, it's the MagPul design team. Looks seriously complicated, but MP had a nack for making innovation work where others fail.

There is huge money in this RDT&E. The US military is NOT happy about the current and past record of the M-249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW). It's very inconsistant, too heavy, and a serious PITA to work on for the average military armorer. They have been trying to come up with a better mouse trap in this area for a long time. They really want to take the SAW concept into a new direction and the direction is a lighter weapon, M-16 based with a faster/easier high capacity magazing feeding system. The current list of possibilities is very limited with the Beta-C mag as the best out there right now. The Beta-C's are finicky as a pregnant woman with borderline personality disorder... They are too unreliable for field use, and require too much attention from the user to keep them running. If Magpul can get this quad stack magazing to work, they could very well corner the military market in this area and sell millions of dollars worth of these mags. I hope they do, but every attempt at this I've ever seen were even more finicky than a Beta-C.

See?! I do know what I'm talking about.... sometimes.... [Beer]
