Love to ride...but I'm on a big cruiser-type bike.

I almost bought a Concours 14 but even that scared me too much. It's hard to go too fast, too quick on a Road King.

I grew up riding dirt bikes and raced competitively for awhile, but have never ridden street bikes. I would love to get a cruiser here in the near future, but all the money seems to go into firearms and my Jeep. Damn priorities, why can't I just win the Power Ball.

I own a motorcycle shop(CO-AR15 members get 10% discount on everything but tires and labor!) in Golden, but I rarely get to ride other than to and from work (but I do that about 300 days a year, only drive when the ice gets too dangerous from other drivers). My primary street bike is a 2001 Yamaha FZ1 that I got in June 07 with less than 2k on the clock, now has just over 30K. Should have 40K on it by December. I have an 87 VFR700, an XT350 for dual sport stuff, and a WR250F that's plated, but used for off road about 99% of the time.

Very nice, i'll have to contact you when I get my crap together and decide to get a bike. I've also thought about going the dual sport route as well, considering thats where I come from. I like the idea of being able to ride to just about any camp spot and then ride home, all while getting MUCH better gas mileage than my Jeep.

I'm too old, to fat and have bum knees from to many years of riding so I just putt around on my Harley anymore. Getting ready to go to spend a week up at the 70th Anniversary Sturgis rally and I can't hardly wait!

That is a SWEET bike (the one in the OP). Lots of other great bikes in this thread too.

PLEASE, do yourself and your family a favor - buy the BEST helmet you can possilby afford and ALWAYS wear it when you ride (same for your passengers too!).

I rode for over 20 years. I had my first street bike wreck in 2000. That was the last day I rode; it was almost the last day of my life. My helmet saved my life!

Ride safely and remember to NEVER under-estimate the stupidity of automobile drivers around motorcyclists.

Well you don't have to worry about me on that one when I was 16 I had a head injury I fell out of the back of a friends convertible MG when he was doing about 40 MPH an as a result fractured my skull (I was being a fool and sitting up on the back like they do in parades).Long story short I spent two months in intensive care and then the next year of my life at Craig Rehabilitation Center re learning how to read, write, walk and talk. So I give thanks to the heavens above by wearing a half helmet when I ride. I know it's pushing it with a half helmet but it is MUCH better than nothing!

When I was EMS I hated doing the meat bag pickups...
60-100+ mph on a crotch-rocket zooming down I-95 (North Carolina)
Bump... ooops... T-Shirt, Shorts, Sneakers and a pair of cool shades do shit for you when you hit Pavement at any speed.
Ive never heard anyone say "Wow, that was a bad wreck, I'm glad I had my cool T-Shirt on otherwise I would have been fucked!" [Eek3]

We seriously would get calls from the Dept of Wildlife... someone thinks it was a deer... call them, They go out and notice whats left of a hand and then call us.

Gloves, Jackets, Boots, Helmets and Common Sense.

Have a safe summer.

X2 I think one of the worst calls I responded to while on the FD, was a guy on a crotch rocket doing around a buck twenty on the highway, truck turns into the bikers lane, to pull into his driveway, and biker runs right into the side of the truck. Come to find out, the biker was my little sisters music teacher. I don't know that a helmet or any other riding gear would have saved him, but it may have done something. Can not stress helmets and propper riding gear, at ALL times.

My first bike was a 47 Knucklehead chopper. 6" over glide front, suicide clutch, ape hangers, chrome everything, etc. Back in those days the average live of a Harley before being stolen was about a week. I had it 3 years, sold it, the buyer had it a month and it was stolen out of his barn.

My next was a Kaw 650 after I got married. After I got hit the third time in three summers my wife made me sell it. First time I was going down the freeway when a pickup decided he wanted my lane. I ended up on one shoulder and the bike on the other side of the freeway. Lots of road rash but no serious injuries, thank the Lord.

Ape hangers! Ok, so I've never known anyone else who owns these. My questions are: Does the blood drain from your hands when you ride for a while? Is it harder to stay on the bike when you're going fast, due to air resistance? And finally, why: are they "cool", or is it fun that way, or other?

I had a Crossbones for a short time. One of the coolest looking factory bikes I've ever seen. I loved looking at it.

For me, though, riding it sucked! I got so much turbulence from the sides at any speed over 40 that I almost couldn't see.

So I traded it for this:

http://i625.photobucket.com/albums/tt337/baileyguns/Motorcycle%20Photos/01f9b1f2.jpg

I also have an 08 Electra Glide Ultra. Tried to do 1000 miles in a day on it but only made 980.8 before I got home. That was plenty far enough in one day.
