I'll be taking a freind up for his first time. I'd like to know if there are any free public range areas. Thanks in advance guys!
You can shoot anywhere in the National Forest if you have a hunters saftey card.
Well you have that partly right... first there is no requirement for a hunters safety card, you must be specified distances from roads, structures and camp sites. Check against the National Forrest rules for yourself.

Conifer, notsomuch. Bailey? Yes. Harris Park is open again, from my understanding. If you know how to get to Harris Park, find the fire station, then a left by the little pond. It's a mile or two in.

Is this true??? I didn't know a hunters safety card was part of the requirements per law etc.. Everything I have read does not say anything
about a hunters safety card.

I could have sworn that this was the case, but others feel that it is not. Contact the DOW, or Forest Service and find out for sure.
Well, been shooting in National Forrest for more than 13 years, the Club's designated South Shoot site is on National Forrest land, we've had rangers there, I've talked to Rangers and County Sheriff's dozens of times... never been asked for a hunters safety card, my CCW or hell any form of ID.
Just sayin'
yep, I've been shooting for 15 years up here and never once been asked for anything. Just trying to pass along info that I heard. Nothing like an idiot out spraying bullets in the Nationals when some of our houses are within a 1/2 mile or so. I spray lots of bullets myself, but only toward blackford76's house[ROFL2]. I think a hunters safety course covers the basic gun handling, at least it did 20 years ago.
don't need a hunter sftey card to shoot.
and Harris Park won't be open till the 16th.
mtn.man, are the roads up there getting maintenance with all the work in HP? Wider roads would be kinda nice. Although if it's too nice the idiots will follow.

So is it open right now? Could I get directions there? Thanks so much guys!
With all the semi's coming and going, you can most likely drive a Corvette back there.
Uber, know where Bailey is? Thats a start. then we can help get you there.
285 to road 43A (traffic Light) stay on 43 to Y (bout 7 miles off 285) go R up hill now on 47/Clark Road later changes names about 3 more times but just stay on the pavement, finally 3 more mile +/- you will come to HP Community Center and Metal build (fire station) turn r go past little pond go left drive into forest follow road it only goes in a big circle so if you go to far you will be right back where you started. but the range will be on your left side back a little off the road you are on.
