So, I've started seeing the commercials advertising that Netflix is now available with your Wii.

I've never had netflix before, but know that you can stream movies and shows online and order movies. Can I get some comments on Netflix and how people like it? Is there anything I can't watch on Netflix besides live news and sports?

I'm asking because I want to see how realistic it would be to drop our cable and just keep the internet and pay the $9 a month for Netflix. It would realistically cut our tv/internet package bill in half.

Thanks in advance.

I never had the streaming one but I did do the mail for awhile. Good deal until you start forgetting to send them back, then not really worth it [Tooth]. I guess streaming would solve that problem though...

I love mine, I have it on my xbox but I believe you have to have a disc sent to you for the wii. HD is pretty clear from a streaming standpoint bit the fast scenes seem to get pretty distorted if your running any faster than 120hz. Watch instant is all you're limited to on any console and the movie selection is kind of limited there but you can always find something there to kill some time.

I guess my specific question is about the selection of television shows. Right now it is nice to just browse channels for whatever is on, but it seems like Netflix could possibly be a pretty good version of On Demand if it works the way I'm thinking is does.

I stream mythbusters on netflix. There are alot of old westerns and documentaies too. Last night the wife and I watched dead snow. It's about Nazi zombies.

I thought the same thing and talked to a buddy of mine who has it. His comments were they have a very limited catalog of what is available online at any point in time. And if you want to watch a tv series, for some reason they'll have most of the episodes of any season online, but not the last couple episodes, so you'll end up having to get those in the mail. So we decided the business model has a few more years before it's viable yet.

I suspect that they do that on purpose or else everyone would just get rid of their cable.

The Wii supports streaming now, be warned Nintendo is talking about charging for their online access soon. Just like XBOX does :)

There is a proliferation of modern Blu-Ray and LCD big screen TV's that are internet enabled (via wireless in many cases) so you can stream Net Flix and others (MS launched a Zune alternative to NF not long ago).

The Catalogs are a bit shallow at times, but with how hard they are pushing this, there is little doubt in my mind that within 12-18 months they'll have no choice but to significantly expand the streaming options or see a business model with extreme potential fail. NF doesn't have a reputation for shirking away from innovation.

Once my current "Ah-Ha" offering from Comcast ends I'll be down grading them to zero movie channels, dropping this ghey arsed phone service and supplanting my Movie jonez with NetFlicks via wireless BluRay and XBox.

So it isn't the total replacement yet, but it beats the prices the Cable and Dish service providers are charging and you have the option to still have movies sent to you on top of the online streaming. Given that Denver is a shipping hub for NF, that turn around is typically 2 days. Yeah it ain't like going to the store, but it sure is nice. Not to mention if all else fails, there is still Redbox (which to my knowledge isn't doing Blu-Ray yet?).

Just my less than humble opinion again :)
