My boss is looking for a new toy. He wants something that looks like a real rifle and is the very best quality and accuracy. He wants to intimidate the nasty pidgeons around his house.

He was looking at some GAMO air rifles. The reviews seem inconsistent.

Anyone have any brand and model recommendations?

I hear the Gamo wisper is nice and quite, I have a gamo too with a fixed power scope and flashlight on top. Good for shooting racoons that get into the grabage, they only problem i have with it is the trigger pull is so god dam heavy(it can be ajusted, have it down to its lowest setting and still heavy). but I can get 3 rounds to almost touch at 36 feet

Sure... RWS/Diana (German), Beeman/Feinwerkbau (FWB), and AirForce are quality guns per every review I've ever read, and I've personally owned a/o shot RWS and Beeman products.

The RWS/Diana site (http://www.diana-airguns.de/) is in German, but if you have a sharp eye you'll see a tiny link for "English" in the top right corner.

You can also find most of their line and other makes here, along with just about anything you'd need for airguns:
http://www.compasseco.com/
...and another airgun superstore:
http://www.pyramydair.com/

Beeman (http://www.beeman.com/) both makes and imports airguns, and I'd rate the German FWB line they have right up there with RWS.

I've always liked the design of the AirForce (http://www.airforceairguns.com/) guns, and they just keep improving. One of the more tacti-cool looking series of air rifles for sure, if that's what your boss wants.

You can get a quality break-barrel/spring rifle and just use open sites for $2-300ish, and can quickly go up from there once you get into the pre-charged pneumatics like the AirForce models and others. If he really wants "the very best quality and accuracy", he should be planning to spend from $500-1k. This example (http://www.compasseco.com/ultimate-condor-combo-caliber-p-1561.html) isn't all that exotic but it's ~$1500 w/ all the trimmings, and we're not even talking about the ones that hurl special 9mm projectiles (http://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Career_707_9mm_Ultra/307)...

Then there's stuff like this... (http://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Feinwerkbau_700_Aluminum_Blue/1030) [Sniper]

I think I still have an old Webley Tempest spring pistol (English) in .177 that I bought through Beeman years ago. I would take it to the pistol range and toss empty brass out on the floor maybe 6-8 yards and practice hitting those. The .45 brass was almost easy to hit....

Gamo seems to have an ok rep, but I've never handled one.

Usual disclaimers/reminders... he should check w/ local PD about firing air rifles in town at all, and then for varminting. There's a current trend to put "suppressors" on airguns, as you may have seen looking at some of Gamo's rifles. I only mention that because they do seem to dampen the usual CRACK of a high power air rifle somewhat, and I guess that could affect how neighbors and/or PD view it.

The upper end air-soft certainly look real, and I have killed chipmunks and pigeons with mine. They aren't going to be as powerful or quite as accurate as a good 'normal' air rifle, but they are much more fun.

Why the importance on what the rifle looks like? Is he hoping for a visit from police when a neighborhood kid sees him sighting up on a bird?

EDIT: You don't really have to answer that. I know how bosses are.

I've been known to irritate a few feral cats around here-followed by a visit from PD because of a neighbor pet lover-illegal to discharge any kind of projectile in Westminster. Check local laws.Just a heads up [Beer]

Stuart, my boss just prefers the look of a conventional rifle vs. a SMG or black rifle look.

chrisguy, I'll suggest that he look at the RWS and Beeman lines.
