Hello everyone!

My name is Erin. Born and stuck behind the lines in this crazy state for most of my 24 years of life. Moving with my friend and girlfriend to the Lakewood area very soon hopefully. Looking forward to making some new friends and attending some events.

Any keywords I should put into the search engine to fill me in on the new freedoms I'll need to get used to enjoying being inside the United States again?

Yay, when you come here you can buy a 50cal gun now :)

Welcome though. Where in lakewood will you be? I live in littleton/ken caryl which is just down the street from lakewood.

Well the appartments we're trying to get into at the moment is near W20th and Wadsworth. in for a 9 month lease while we look for a house to rent.

Spent a week in the area back in April looking for appartments and loved it. 40 minutes to great camping and outdoors, 25mins to downtown denver.

Cool, that's about 20 minutes from where I live.

You will love it here, much better than that "other" place.

Are there any must have items I need to aquire? Aside from a CO CCW...

One thing you need to get is more guns and ammo. If you look around you can find good deals. One thing I noticed is Lakewood has a somewhat high tax for guns. When I went shopping for my M&P9c for carry, I went to Greenmountain Guns and the tax was 8% but when I went to Prairie Arms down here in Littleton I got it for just 4% tax.

A CCW is a good thing if you plan on carrying in and around Denver in my opinion since open carry is illegal in Denver. Oh ya, you can carry a handgun loaded with a round in the chamber but not with a long gun. For those there can't be a round chambered.

Also a good site for the laws is Rocky Mountain Gun Owners.

well you have to get a reliable 4x4
we get snow in June and July around the high country here...

I'm going to disagree with this- 4x4 does NOT help you STOP!

#1 problem on slick roads is driving too fast for the conditions...

you need to take whatever vehicle you drive to an EMPTY parking lot and slide it all over until you're comfortable with sliding.. if you can't get comfortable with sliding it, try a different vehicle.. some just don't slide well..

but 4x4 is NOT the answer- I had a job as a delivery driver in Anchorage, Alaska through the winter- 25k miles in one year, and no accidents- 4x2 mini-pickup with 800Lbs of weight in the bed, and studded snow tires.. but 4x4 not req'd..

Welcome. It may be a bit of a culture shock coming to a place where you actually get some of your freedoms returned so just take it one day at a time.

whoa there killer...
I was kinda being sarcastic about the common stereotype that everyone here has a 4x4.

you don't have to tell me, trust me I know... Ive work EMS as well as a tow driver here.
but I will say that when it is slick as shit out good tires and 4 wheel will help you stay moving.

I'm just going to quit fucking coming here if I get attacked at every turn.

Wasn't meant as an attack- guess I came across as an ass... maybe I should use a smaller font...[Coffee]
come to think of it, I may have just been in a bad mood, yesterday was a bad day- sorry...

I usually find it entertaining when someone in their invincible 4x4 passes my lowly little commuter car.. then I seen them in the ditch

Welcome to Colorado, Erin!

I too am a Native Kalifornian and believe me, the only thing I miss about the Republic is In-N-Out and the food in the Bay Area.

If you have a desire, you can get any variant of an AR legally, including an SBR.

About your CCW, I suggest getting one, as it's a wonderful freedom to enjoy.

Look up Pawnee National Grasslands... it's about an hour and a half north of Denver, but totally worth it as a place to shoot and get away from it all.

And if you're a baseball fan, Coors is the best ballpark in the US.

Looking forward to meeting you at an event in the future.

The Best!

Thanks for the welcome everyone. Hope to share a few magazines with you all at some point.[UZI]

I'm definatly interested in building a couple ARs, maybe an SBR. But honestly I'm more interested in picking up a supressor for the AR I'm trying to finish. Then it's onto a supressed .30 cal bolt rifle. Not sure if i want to do it in .308 or .30-06. Choices...[Bang]

I'm curious, is anyone here interested in martial arts? I'm sadly leaving a budding training group here and would love to find a group of guys in the denver area that already study or would like to start a study group. My limited experiance is mostly in edged weapons and a little empty hand. I'm always looking to learn more.

As for the 3 new spots open in CA, there will be a couple more following after a while if I can find leads on work for them. lol

Thanks for the tip on Pawnee NG. I'll definatly check it out. I'm not much for structured ranges except to sight in. I like to be able to move as I shoot, setup targets more exotically, and having been in CA for so long I haaaaate rapid fire(more than 1 round a second) limitations.[Rant1]

Can you get .30-06 in subsonic? Or were you not looking to go that quiet?

the only martial arts gyms I'm familiar with are more boxing/mma stuff so I can't help you there.

As far as moving and shooting, I think doing some local matches is probably the way to go. Should be able to set something up for yourself in Pawnee though.

ErinMT
06-16-2010, 23:30
I don't know if I can find 30.06 in sub sonic, never really tried. I'm just kind of a fan of the old workhorse. When I have the funds for the ammo I'd like to build a .300 Win mag rig too.

That and I have an idea in my head I'd love to bring into reality. A bolt action supressed 9mm rifle that uses glock 26 magazines.

Now you just need to add your suppressor.

What can I whip up for you next.

Californian with new (to them) 4x4 on our snowy roads?!!?? Are you mad?

My best advise - Stop in AZ , stay there, and make sure nobody leaves CA, mkay? JM, but don't go get in an SUV and pretend the snow isn't there.

There is a LOT of good Aikido in the Area; Ikeda Shihan (7th Dan, and 2nd in command of American Schools of Ueshiba) is located in Boulder, and many of his former students have opened their own dojos throughout the metro area. His is a harder style of Aikido than you may be familiar with coming from California. Lots of strikes, and he takes weapons very seriously. If memory serves he is also an enthusiastic shooter, though on this point I MAY be confusing him with Saotome Shihan in Florida. In any case he and those who studied with him will not look at you askance if you talk about defensive firearms, which is nice.

I'm new here too, and hadn't known about Pawnee. That's reasonably close to my place in Loveland. If anyone's up for a group trip out that way soon, I'd be happy to act as a staging point for carpooling and after-action hamburgers! Erin, you and yours? :)

Hey far out man. That's a great idea for group shoots - we all wear hawaiian shirts - this way we don't have to stop at every group and ask "Colorado AR15 Shooters group?"

ErinMT
07-04-2010, 09:03
Hawaiin shirts have been the unofficial uniform for my friends and i when we'd go airsofting. it was our was of saying, "Grow up and take it less seriously, you're a grown man playing dressup with bb guns!" to the people that thought they were bad asses because they bought an expensive uniform and gear.

Nothing rains on the parade of a bunch of steely eyed, thousand yard glare tossing, multicam warrior wannabees like showing up in a bright red $15 walmart HI shirt.

OK, not to sound to mushy and all... but Erin and his GF hung out with me today at our table at Tanner for a while. They're both really great people. Erin knows a heck of a lot about tactical firearms use, training and firearms in general.

Thanks again for the help and company today. It was great meeting you both!
