Do any good?
I accidentally caught a crayfish and a carp broke my line.
I did talk to some people and see some examples of how to rig my line.

Better than nothing, plus you can never learn to much.
yea, i went yesterday and no luck for 7 hours, but i had a good day with my 3year old daughter and her sponge bob pole hahaha, now i need to sell a gun to get a small fishing boat hahaha
I'm going to go back and catch a baby crayfish and put him in my fresh water tank. This time I'll bring a net suited for it though. I DID catch one by hand, but it was a pain.
The first day out I was trying to use spinners and was casting like every two minutes or so. It didn't seem like that was what anyone else was doing, so I think that is more for streams. I'm glad I got to see how people had sinker rigs set up. When I tried something similar the next day, I had a big bite within 10 minutes. However my line broke and I didn't get anything for the rest of the day.
I asked one fisherman if anyone ate carp and he said, "Yeah, a lot of black people eat them." lol

Yeah carp is pretty nasty, if you smoke them they are edible.
Crawfish you can catch with a piece of bacon or hotdog on paper clip tied to a string.
Spinner baits work good in lakes if they are bighting and you use the right one, but you usually have to be fishing some kind of cover.
Some old guy told me yesterday that they were good eating. No thanks

An old guy once told me the best way to cook carp is grill them over low heat on a cedar board... then throw away the fish and eat the board.
Sitting on the dock and not a bite Haha

Hmm. I Googled the lake - got the satellite image and didn't see you out there on the dock. You must have been in the bathroom at the time.[ROFL1]
So, I'm not at all familiar with fishing in/around Denver but the Google satellite image showed a lot of little lakes up around that area. Given that it is so much larger than Bear Lake, I'm curious why you didn't go to Marston Lake instead?

Talk to Cowboy Johnson - apparently, he's got one.
(I just crack myself up.)
Does anyone know if you are allowed to take crayfish for eating? I didn't see anything on the sign at the fisherie about them. It just listed the fish and said live bait was okay.

Yes, but... this year they just started this restriction
Rusty crayfish have been discovered in the headwaters of the Yampa River. To prevent the spread of rusty crayfish within and beyond the Yampa River basin, the Director of the Division of Wildlife has issued an immediate order (http://wildlife.state.co.us/NR/rdonlyres/2F68E28E-EAEE-417A-8741-A31E256E5EEB/0/CrayfishClosureLetter.pdf) (4MB PDF) that prevents the removal of any live crayfish from the Yampa River, and any streams, lakes, canals or rivers that adjoin the Yampa River.
Source:http://wildlife.state.co.us/WildlifeSpecies/Profiles/InvasiveSpecies/RustyCrayfish.htm
In the Yampa River basin from its headwaters downstream to the Colorado-Utah state line, including all tributaries, reservoirs, lakes and canals - All crayfish must be returned to the water of origin immediately or killed and taken into possession immediately upon catch with kill being effected by separating the abdomen from the cephalothorax (tail from body), beginning 12:01 a.m., April 10, 2010 and extending through 11:59 p.m., December 31,2010.

You can eat all you can catch. You're allowed to catch all you want. The only restriction is (depending on where you are catching them) you may have to remove the tail from the thorax at the catch site.
Oh good, I don't want to find out I'm storing contraband in my bathtub. Thanks for the info.
Last I knew, Marston was part of either Denver or Englewood water supply.. No fihing in it.. At least it was that way when I was a juvenile Delinquent..
going to mcconaughy this weekend to hopefully catch some wipers. went earlier this year and only caught catfish.
here are some that were caught last year

Well, we boiled up the crayfish. They are chilling in the fridge now. We're going to try a few to see how we like them, and if we do, I'll go back and get a lot more. We'll try a real recipe then.
hahaha i caught one today it was eating the nightcrawler on the hook.
Yeah if you just throw some bait onto a hook and set it in the water, they will come out to drag it under a rock. I just went up and down lifting rocks and catching them, then would see what the bait attracted each time I passed. We already ate them and they were delicious. I want to go back and get more.
what lake did you get them at
crayfish are great... my wife wears her waders and catches them with her hand and can easily fill a bucket up
There is a fishery near I-76 and 74th. It is actually at Steele Street park, right on the Platte River trail.
