Im watching it on the Duece and the Comcast's (Shitcast) descritpion of the episode is a generic for the entire series.

"Big-budget sci-fi flop that was more tha a bit reminiscent of Star Wars"

I think in some small ways it was, but it was kinda its own niche.

What say the CO-ARFcomers???

Are we talking the old 70's series or the new one they did? If it's the new one, great series. I'd hardly call it a flop. It lasted for 5 seasons and actually ended rather than getting canned. Starts off a little slow but easily one of my favorite scifi series. More of a grown-up drama than a sci-fi show. I think its depiction of human behavior is dead on.

The Original. I grew up watching it on Sundays, so it was always kick ass to me[Beer]

The original was good for its time. Kinda B-rated but a great idea. I watched it all the time as a kid and loved it.

Okay, it took me 3 seasons to get into the NEW Galactica, but I am a huge fan of both the original and the new BG series.

Yes, the original was exceptionally cheesy and "B movie-ish", but it was a great concept and who didn't want a Viper of their very own?

Now, "Galactica 1980" flat out sucked. That's the take off series where they found Earth. Starbuck and Apollo were dead, yet Adama was still around? Are you kidding me?

So say we all?

FRACK!!

I tried watching the new one but couldn't get into it. Cute blonds but the story leaves me flat.

Was that the one with the flying motorbikes? I saw it in a cinema when I was young and it was utterly awesome :D

Yup, that's the one. There were about 1/2 dozen or so episodes. I used an old audio cassette recorder to record each episode. I finally threw those away about 10 years ago.

The original Battlestar Galactica was way beyond Star Wars. Star Wars was pure cheese -- lovable cheese in the first two films but after that it was trite and predictable.

There were some incredible production values in the original series. Even as they copied classic stories with "Gun on Ice Planet Zero" (basically a SF ripoff of "Guns of Navarone"), they did more to explore new cultures in 1 minute of the original BSG than an entire season of the remade crap Ron D. Moore wrote.

15 seconds of interplay between Starbuck and Cassiopeia told us volumes about an entire culture (he asked her why the Gemmons despised her so much, she explains she's a "socialator" and they only have sex every 7 years, he says "no wonder the little buggers are such great card players").

The new BSG just left me cold. Contemporary names (the names we knew were just call signs in the new series), clothing that looked like you could have picked it up at Neiman Marcus, weapons that didn't even look as advanced as a Beretta Storm or SCAR. Worse was the stories were more soap opera than science fiction.

Heck, Space: Above and Beyond was better military SF than Ron D. Moore's "reimagining" of BSG.
