View Full Version : Just venting a little

Alright... I just have to do a little forum venting to make sure I am normal... so... am I the only one who is irked by people who post with such poor grammar and spelling that you can barely make out what they are trying to say?... Am I also the only one who is bothered by these idiots who make replies apparently without reading the post? ( for example when someone list an item they found for sale elsewhere as a courtesy to other members and they specifically say this is not their item and to contact the actual seller and some idiot still asks them questions or makes a trade offer)... Oh, and speaking of trade offers, how about the people who want to offer to trade their slightly worn Lorcin 380 straight up for your most recent AR build... usually end their post with "if you are interested"... lol.... sorry... I realize these things are common to most forums and not specifically this one... most of the time I find other people's stupidity just outright amusing but occasionally it can be annoying.... is it just me?

Does not make or break my day, If I can't understand the post, I don't send my business their way, nor do I stress my brain trying to figure out what they are trying to say.

Don't get me wrong... I definitely don't let it keep me up at night or dwell on it or anything... like I said, most of the time I just find it amusing... but sometimes it can be a little annoying... I know I can't be the only one who finds it annoying, can I? [Coffee]

You certainly are not the only one annoyed by illiterate folks, but i've come to expect it on forums. One thing that does annoy me, is when people are trying to sell something, and refuse to post pictures of the item. There are plenty of resources out there, to allow you to post pictures to the forum, and if you need help, then ask. If you can't take a few extra minutes to post some pics, then I have no interest in buying from you. Pics via e-mail don't count either.

YES! Now that's what I'm talking about, and magnified would be nice as well [Tooth]. Actually just a couple basic pics of the item for sale, without having to play e-mail tag. Maybe i'm being too demanding, but I don't think so.

I award you 10 irony points for your atrocious grammar, in particular the overuse and incorrect usage of the ellipsis, but I take 10 away as your post wasn't at all difficult to understand. It's a good start, but I'm going to have to ask you to try harder to stick with your theme in the future.

Part of the problem is the colloquialism of the texting language that innudates everything that people do these days. When people cannot string together coherrent thoughts, there is a major problem in communication.

Yes, call them on that in their posts - it is required by site rules when asking for a FTF sale. I always include the specific rule's they've violated when I call them on it - I cut-and-paste it straight out of the posted rules.

Now, as for the OP:
I'm not too particularly bothered by the bad spelling/grammer, and I'm no one to complain about mistyped words either.
Just small stuff that I can work around.

I often mis-spell words and use horrendous grammar as well. Sometimes I am either typing too fast or just do not have the time to sit down and formulate a proper sentence using the correct semantics, etc. However, I do think that all of my posts are easily understandable. The things that get me are: no paragraphs for a book posting, run on sentences, and the like. I get bothered more by format/structure than by spelling and grammar, though the latter does tick me off sometimes.

I have come to the conclusion that the atrocious grammer and punctuation have come to serve a useful purpose.
Those two items are key in helping me to assess the value of the content of the post.

now if we have that in our info/profile and its in the upper right of all of our posts do we need to repeat it in the actual post itself or there a redundancy and repetitive repeating rule?.. or sorts?

So anyways back to ... people and ... posts
the ones I love are:

Posts where they say they will post pictures... but never do
people you offer to help... but they trudge on with obnoxious crap because they don't want to make the effort.
People that honestly believe their off-brand 2nd Owner USED Firearm and sweaty ass "Custom" (see factory production with fancy label) holster is listing MORE than a new one.
People that don't understand the fundamentals of "haggling". Offering me 80-90% of what I listed is a start point. Offering me Half of what I listed it for is an insult...ok.. done for now.

Good Thread!

+1... although sometimes the advice we offer can be... destructive?

Speaking of destructive, three hoo-aah's for DM's this Saturday about 1 p.m. I get to have some tannerite fun (and we'll be doing clays of course). Come on out, but bring your own ammo, I'm poor! lol.

If you have your location in your profile where it either displays at the top/right of all of your posts, or you have it in your sig block, I'm certain that would satisfy the requirement and it would not be necessary to add it to the specific For Sale post.

Glad to see I am not the only sane one here. I will refrain from the use of the three consecutive periods and will finish each thought with a single one to avoid irritating anyone. Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend celebrating their independence. Take care.

There is a forum member that usually only posts in the sales section. I tried doing business with him once. He actually raised the price once he found out I was interested. His emails were almost cryptic. There was no spelling, structure or complete thought involved. I offered to meet near his work because he couldn't get away. No dice. I finally told him to let me know if/when he wanted to do business. Never hear anything more.

I still see the occasional post from him. I almost want to a warning, to anyone who will listen, to avoid this person.

I love to use them as well.

I first learned about their use back in Middle School (for me it was called Junior High). They are critical in identifying the transitions in the story (not the movie) The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Buyer feedback forum.
Anytime I see any sort of correspondence regarding a transaction I go looking in there to see how that person has dealt with others.

You don't have to slam someone using profanity or anything. But if you had a bad time, say so.
