Am a little confused about using moon clips. Can i use them in my Ruger GP-100. I saw that the cylinder needs to be machined out is this true? thanks

it may be possible,i wouldnt do it,i own a gp100 and i use speed loaders,if ur good u can reload with an hks speed loader just as fast as moon clips,or as fast as some idiots can change magazines in theyre semi autos,i have a gp100 and am a crackshot ,dead on,if you only have 6 and you cant hit ur target with the first 1 2 or 3 rounds.you shouldnt own a sixgun,

Leave the attitude at home next time.

The cylinder does need to be machined. It is a pretty easy conversion.
I had a local gunsmith machine my S&W 657 for moon clips or Tom Killhoffer from TK Customs can do it and provide you the moon clips.
I would do it again without a doubt.
All my 625s are factory cut for moon clips.

thanks guys
Forgive my ignorance but I thought moon clips were for rimless cartridges. How do you get rimmed rounds like the 357 to stay in the clips?

You just snap them in the moon clip. Even rimmed cases like 38/357 have a small indent that a moon clip can latch on to.

Thanks Hoser! I guess the only revolvers I had seen that took moon clips were always in calibers like 45ACP, 10mm, or 9mm.
