Please report back after the range. I'm struggling between the gen 3 rtf2 and this gen 4.

If you own or have fired a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gen 19, let us know how the recoil compares. I've been told by folks that have shot the 4th gen 17, that recoil is significantly lighter (not sure how much lighter 9mm can get). My 3rd gen 19 is absolutely perfect for me as far as grip is concerned, so a difference in recoil would probably be the only reason for me purchasing a 4th gen, the 3rd gen however, isn't going anywhere.

yea i know what you mean, the recoil on a 9mm is nothing so well see. it was between this and the 32 but for work the 32 seemed a little much, the 4th gen 32 comes out 8/18 so ill get it then as a camping/hunting sidearm

A 4th gen 32 definitely sounds appealing. While the recoil on the 3rd gen is quite managable, with as flat shooting as it is, less recoil would really make it a shooter. I will definitely have to consider a 4th gen in the 32.

Gen 4 is slightly better recoil. You hardly notice it until you shoot gen 3 again. My biggest deal is I stopped shooting high to the right on follow on shots with the gen 4.

I'm interested in that, as well. Is it just the recoil spring that changed or other things additionally?

The recoil spring is the biggest change, the slide is different but nothing function wise just cut bigger for the recoil spring and the slide is wider. The frame is basically a SF frame to handle the backstrap configurations. The Gen 4's are sweet shooters for sure. The texture on the grip is the best yet in my opinion, rough enough to grip the gun but not nearly as rough as an RTF.

Congrats on the 19!

went and shot it yesterday, it was very nice, the recoil was good for a 9mm, it was accurate and i let some one shoot it who has never fired a glock hahaha, i put maybe 70 rounds thru it and no malfunctions at all so iam very happy with it

It shoots very nice, and suprisingly accurate. The three of us who shot it were all able to easily hit a smaller than man sized stump at about 30 yards. The only down side for me is that it is too small for my hands. Still a very nice piece, as expected for Glock.

I love my G19 3rd Gen it's perfect but I am really interested in the 4th Gen. Are a lot of the old aftermarket parts you can get with the 3rd compatible with the 4th? Obviously not the guide rod.

Some are, the pins, slide stop, connector, springs and upper parts all work. The trigger bar, trigger housing, mag release, aftermarket grip plugs do not.

Don't be discouraged if your Gen 4 initially doesn't like low powered ammo like Federal Champion from Wal-Mart. After a couple of range trips followed by a clean and lube it shoots anything now.

I have a gen 4 glock 17. It doesn't malfunction, but the ejecting brass hits me in the forehead. Anyone else have this problem? I think I am selling it and getting a gen 3.

Went out last weekend and shot my new Glock 19 Gen 4 no issues with ejections or any malfunctions. Love it!

Have a Glock 17 Gen 4. So Far I have put 2800 rds through it. Only one malfunction and that was shooter error(stove pipe). The type of ammo I have been using is cheap steal case Russian (2300 rds) and UMC(500 rds). Before ever shooting the gun I stripped and removed all Glock lubricants. Then I applied Militech (my Lube of choice), have not cleaned the gun yet and it is shooting just fine. I have heard a lot of Internet warriors/gunshop killers saying the new Gen 4 glocks did not run at all. Well I am pretty sure they are wrong and these guns are just fine and are keeping with Glock's history.

I was buying a new G19 this weekend, and decided against the gen4. I'm not a leftie, and the grip is large enough for me without needing the back straps. Hope I'm not missing too much in the way of recoil reduction, but the G19 doesn't really have much recoil anyway. I feel it recoils better than my M&P9, as followup shots were a lot faster and easier right out of the box for me.

The first Gen4 had the .40cal springs which did cause some issues but was quickly fixed. I'm talking the first 1000 guns or so.

I don't like the GEN4, I don't like the finish or the feel, but i'm sure they function just fine. Eventually i'll have one.

Gen 4 Glock 19 is my first gun, so I have nothing to compare it to (could be a good thing I suppose). I did a lot of research on the Gen 4 first and yes the .40 cal spring caused a stir with this Glock. I just couldn't pass up the deal I got for mine (Brand New) and made sure the 04 spring was installed.

Earlier someone said they decided against because they were not a lefty? What does "not being a lefty" have to do with a Gen 4? I'm not a lefty and have a Gen 4? Maybe a dumb questions on my part but thought I would ask being a new gun owner.

the mag release is reversible. Good question

Yup.

The "base" grip fits my hand - No need for added back straps of the Gen4
I am right handed - No need for reversible mag catch on the Gen4

Thanks for info. So much for my comment "I did a lot of research on the Gen 4" :D. So much to learn! Thanks again

I traded in my G17 gen 4 for a gen 3 and am so glad I did. The Gen 3 runs flawlessly and doesn't eject brass into my forehead like the gen 4 did. recoil reduction on the gen 4 was barely noticeable to me. Just my 2 cents

I shot mine today, no issues at all. At 15 yards all hits were within the 10 and 9 round. DEAD ON. G-19 can't beat it.... in the 9mm. I have almost ever caliber glock made except the 18 and 45 gap. So you know I love glock. This is a sweet shooting weapon G-19 Gen 4. Good choice and 9mm ammo the cheapest to practice with.

how are you all liking the texture for carrying? It feels like sandpaper on my bareskin almost.

I agree.. That's my only complaint on my gen4 g19, need an undershirt for IWB. The gen3 texture was alot nicer but I'll keep the gen4!!
