This is probably way off base; however, did any of you see this news item?
http://www.denverpost.com/ci_15523000
Some creep(s) stole a small scout troop's equipment. They are not a big troop and I suspect $$ is hard to come by.
They are having a car wash at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Aurora on Saturday (1 Del Mar Circle). That's about 6th & Peoria.
Tomorrow, I am going to the basement to see what camping equipment I have that is no longer needed and I'm going to take it out to the car wash. I'm also going to see if there is any lunch money left over that I could donate.
Anyone in the area interested in joining me?
If there ever was a worthwhile cause where we can make a difference, this is it.

well...ill just hafta swing by in the '51 and drop some green! Don't think I have any gear that I can go without.
One of those times I'd love to donate but just don't have the coin. Kudos for putting it up on the site for more exposure though.

Well, I came up with two tents, a rain fly, three lanterns, several tarps, a cook kit, a camp stove, two sleeping bags, etc, etc.
This sure helps with some of the basement litter problem (not really).

If there is a shred of decency in this town there will be a line 5 miles long for that car-wash
but something inside of me says it probably wont be so...

I hope they do well today. I'm surprised the troop didn't have insurance on the trailer ? Our troop had our gear trailer at the Elks parking lot and because it was always parked in back out of sight we insured it and the gear. Just saying.
This is a good cause, I wish I was in town today. Does anyone know what time it will run till?

Mrs. CB and I got over there about 9:30 this morning. Several cars were waiting in line to be washed.
I really didn't want a wash, as nobody would recognize my old truck if it was clean anyway.
We dropped off the camping gear and made a little cash donation.
Based on what we saw just after 1 1/2 hours, I'll bet they did well today! Those kids were really hustling.
Mrs. CB was real happy that I got half a pickup load of crap out of the basement!

Let me start by introducing myself; I am a US Air Force Firearms Instructor, Eagle Scout, and the Son of the Scoutmaster for Troop 101 and the Older Brother of the Senior Patrol Leader of Troop 101. I have viewed this forum many times but until today never signed up; I felt it was time in order to say thank you to everyone that helped the troop yesterday.
Claimbuster, thank you so much for helping to spread the word and for your very generous donation to the troop; when I spoke with my Father (Doug Jones) last night he specifically mentioned your gift; he along with every boy in that troop have been moved beyond words at the generosity of the community.
Several scouts from around the area not affiliated with the troop came by and lent a helping hand, dropping their plans and picking up a sponge or shammy to help the troop out. All in all the troop cleared over $3,000 cash from the car wash and a ton of camping gear. Donations are still comming in with an additional $6,000-$7,000 being pledged to help the troop; more than enough to cover the expenses of what was taken.
Byte Stryke, I don't know if the line for the car wash was ever 5 miles long...but I do know the boys had about a 5 hour period in which they could not stop because of the line that was waiting. Very suprising in the way the community came together for this!!!
What's next? Well as I mentioned in my introduction I am an Eagle Scout and in my entire scouting carreer I have not seen a Scout Troop like this one. This troop strives to raise all the funds for everything they get or do including the boys personnal equipment, uniforms, cost of summer camps etc. not expecting the boys or their family to front the costs of any of their activities. Therefore with any funds left over they will add some money into each boys' personnal scout accounts to help them pay for activities, gear etc (with commitee oversight/approval). They will also donate excess gear to other scouts and troops that are in need, and have pledged to make monatary donations to local community organizations.
Again Thank you to everyone that was able to come by to help support Troop 101, these boys will remember forever how much people care and without your generous support many of these boys will now have the opportunity to continue in their scouting journey, a journey that will follow them for the rest of their lives, as mine has. On behalf of Doug Jones (Scoutmaster), Chad Jones (Senior Patrol Leader), and the boys and leaders of Troop 101, our hats are off to you. Thanks again.
