Um, yeah and I went to Harvard. Probably 5 or 6 times.

Haven't been to that studio, but Krav Maga training is something anyone concerned about self-defense should study.

What the hell is it?

I trained at the one on Parker and Quincy for awhile. All I can say is GREAT stuff. I would really like to start training again, but it is kind of pricey. Not only is the Self Defense aspect of it great, but it will probably be THE BEST workout you have ever gotten. Especially if they do crossfit as well.

Also thought I would add, there are alot of imposters out there, so be sure whatever instructor you go with, is actually accredited by the International Krav Maga Federation.
according to the website there are only a few places in the country to train krav maga
I liked Krav Maga a lot, trained that in Finland. I do not know how it is here in US, but civilians and LEO´s were only able to get "soft" training.
What I have felt to be the most effective, was Russian martial arts. That is why I can not smell very well nowadays :)I guess this is some kind of Hollywood-civilian-bullshit-version about it : http://www.systemaspetsnaz.com/

Hannu, I think what you are talking about is called Sambo. If I remember correctly, Krav a martial arts taught in the Israeli military. Krav and Sambo are a lot alike.
They teach basic Krav in the USAF to certain personel in advanced technical schools. Last one I went to, it was a mix of Krav and MMA techniques that worked well in full gear and level IV body armor. There are just some things you can't do with level IV plates hanging off your chest and back.
I never consider Sambo, MuaiThai (SP?), and Krav Maga as "Martial Arts"

I went to a free session at the one in Broomfield awhile back. I was impressed with the whole concept BUT at my age and having COPD I didn't last long.hahaha It's a very aggressive style of self defense and I think it merits looking into for you fitter folks. [Beer]
Sean, Sambo has some elements from what they trained us. Like throat punch in this video looks very familiar : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBjin8zNUWc However, in general that looks more based on, locks etc. and not so much on punches and kicks.
This is probably the closest thing what I was able to find from Youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uOszNGbr9Y
However, I was teached in Military, so they did not told us "this is the Martial Arts "X" :) Probably mixed stuff from various sources.
We only had pretty light body armor back then, no ballistic plates.
That is why I still have (after 10+ years) 2" scar in my back from 7,62x39 steelcore bullet that came straight through, even it tumbled before hitting.

Why not Muai Thai? I could see what you mean (or what I think you mean) about Krav Maga.

Good question!
MuaiThai is more of a sports or a fighting tool. Mixed with martial arts and boxing.
Martial art has main offices that regulates and sets up major tournment internationally.
For an example, Kendo has association and federation that regulates.
TaeKwonDo has an KooK Ki Won (http://www.kukkiwon.or.kr/eng/index.action) at Seoul, Korea. They have WTF and ITF as well.
Martial arts have a belt system and Dan/degree system. However, belt and dan system is highly abused by master/grandmaster for their marketing/promotion.
Some master/grandmaster really need to get @ss whipped.
I would say KungFu is little different, but i "believe" there are more than ~50 totally different Kungfus.
If someone wants to take a quick martial arts as a self defense tool, they are wasting their time. Just carry an OC/Pepper spray.
It makes me smile when i see some people taking 1st year choreographed martial art or even fighting tool thinking they are batman! :D
Until 2004, I thought Krav Maga was just a shooting technics that israeli made.
