Anybody here into hitting the gym or just working out in general? What Gyms do you guys like and why? I love going to the gym and just maintaining a semi-healthy lifestyle. Going to the Lifetime Fitness in Parker right now, been there for about a year. I'm thinking of switching gyms tho, Lifetime is quite pricey.

I go to miramont up north, its a good gym and reasonably priced but they don't open till 5 am on weekdays and later on weeekends so I am gonna be switching soon. But I refuse to pay $60/month and sign a contract. I spend a lot of time at the gym working out shooting hoops and running on the indoor track. If I could force myself to eat right I would be GTG.
I'll never join a gym again if I can avoid it. I can do all the workouts I need from home.

I used to go to a local Fitness 19. Stopped going a couple years ago. Since then, little by little I have been accumulating weights and equipment for my home gym (Craigslist baby!). If one has the space, in either a garage or basement, I HIGHLY recommend looking at setting up your own home based gym. Cheaper in the long run, convenient, no waiting in line for a piece of equipment, etc. There are many more positives than negatives IMO. I love having my own workout area; it's one of the best decisions I've made in a long time.
As for routines, I'm big on what Ross Enamait preaches.

Combining strength + conditioning exercises + core work will get one in great shape.
Google the Red Rocks Work out. 100% free and will kick your ass all over the place.

I used to be a member of 24 hour, lots of muscle heads standing around trying to look good. That was when I went in the afternoon/evening, I go at the ass crack of dawn now, so maybe it wouldn't be as bad. If they can offer me something better than $60 a month I may rejoin.

Check out your local city fitness centers. Due to my age I get $20 bucks a month full access at Westminster Fitness Center. Since I got unemployed I knew I had to do something to stay at least reasonably fit. Workout 3 mornings a week more if I can.

That's not a bad idea provided they have showering facilities, as I go straight to work from the gym.

Full gym in the basement (all free weights) and 3 days on the Mats at Judo practice for 2 hours a pop does it for me.

My wife used 24 hour in Denver for awhile. I had a free pass when she worked there. I used it for spin classes and to run the treadmill in winter. Now we are members at the Y. My son loves the pool and there is free child care.
My favorite gym in Colorado is the outdoors. I have a mountain bike and road bike which keep me pretty fit.

I thought gun nuts were a bunch of old fat guys? That's what the whack jobs always portray us as yet on everygun forum I have been on there is usually a fitness section or at least threads on it. I would like to try cross fit as well as the gym for a while but I can't afford anymore money going out right now.
I am getting old, I don't push myself like I used to, I need a drill to get me motivated.

They have full shower rooms at mine.
yeah if youve got the home space getting your own stuff together is a great idea. even if you buy everything new you can get an awesome set up, with everything you really need, for around 3k. sounds expensive but over the long run saves a lot of money and time

Yeah, Old and Fat is what they portray us as. I'd be willing to bet, between the Military, LE, and "survivalist" types, who are also gun enthusiasts, there are more people working out than one would think. Part of it for me, is the fact that my family doesn't exactly have the greatest health record past 60 or so. Some of it is hereditary, some of it is just plain ole not taking care of themselves, I refuse to be one of family members always in the hospital when i'm 65. I'll be enjoying the retired life, still doing everything I love to do.

Oh yeah? I've been looking to get a "power tower" for the house, so I can do pull ups, dips, and leg lifts at home. If you wouldn't mind PM'ing me what you would charge for something like that, i'd be greatful.
Just something like this:

You talking about the 19 down the street from us? Tried it for a year but got tired of the asshats who like to tie up multiple stations, seems every other week I'd have some douche PO'd because I had no problem tossing their towels out of my way if they were just bs'ing somewhere else. I now go to powerhouse but not as often as I should.

Thats a pretty cheap price there, don't know if we could compete with that.

The 19 on Holly & 128? No, I haven't been to that one. It was the Westminster one on 112th & Federal, I used to live closer to that one. But yeah, that one was bad enough, I hear you. During the busy times it was impossible to get what you wanted.

Just a couple suggestions.....a couple low maintenance options would be:
1) Pull ups - do you have rafters in your garage or basement you could perform pull ups on? I don't have a pull up bar, either, and am relegated to having to do them in my garage. One plus is I have crazy parallel callouses on my hands. :)
Or...if you have access to a sturdy tree branch you could do perform them on that?
Some day, I want to pick up one of these: http://studbarpullup.com/index.html
2) Dips - I do dips on a pair of sawhorses made from 2X4's. It was the cheapest option I found. It's quite effective and cheap to build, I love doing dips.

In high school I took weight lifting everyday, since then I was starting to get out of shape. Now I'm running 1.5-3 miles 3 days a week and getting back into weight lifting at home. I need to get my big upper body back!
A former downstairs bedroom is my gym, converting it out-right but other household projects have priority. Body Solid rack setup, Standard Barbell olympic plates/bars and other misc gear. Much prefer versus public facilities. BTW - one of the best investments I've ever made in gear was a set of PowerBlocks with an add-on kit. The above equipment, my mountain bike (fitness rides), and a few runs at altitude on occasion and I'm good with one exception, still need a heavy-bag. I'm doing a garage make-over starting in two weeks and once complete, the bag is going up out there.
I love working-out and have for many years. Never understood that "rotting away, look & feel like shit thing" so many seem to adopt in life.
We got one of those pull up things that fits in any trimmed doorway. It works fine and the only issue is that I'm so tall that my knees nearly hit the ground when using it.
I moved into a new place this weekend with a VERY neat workout facility. I will now begin the trek to lose some of this fat... prayers will be needed and appreciated! HAHA.
My spare bedroom has a safe, a computer and a kegerator in it.
I think I need to spend a few days a week just walking around the block a few times.
Baby steps, my bretheren. Baby steps.

Start off slow and work your way up-doesn't take long-I've never been a workout person until the last 2 years-feeling and sleeping better !!

X2 Start slowly, no reason to rush into anything. Working out definitely makes ya feel better. I go Mon/Tues and Thurs/Fri, with Wed and the weekends off, the weekends aren't so bad because I get to sleep in, but Wed morning at work, I can definitely feel a lack of energy. I try to run at least 4 miles every time I go to the gym (time permitting), so the energy rush I get afterwards is awesome.
