I book a ton of hotel rooms and found that using Hotwire and Priceline saves me the most money. HOWEVER, I first visit www.betterbidding.com and use their database to research how much rooms are selling for. I then use their list of hotel amenities to pinpoint the exact hotel on Hotwire before I accept any offers. I also use the list for Priceline hotels to find out which specific hotels are at each star level and even go so far as to link to Hotwire and Priceline through them so they get their $0.001.

Next, if you're a frequent patron of Priceline you have to be crafty to get "extra bids" without waiting 24 hours. ex: Say you're looking for a 4 star room in Downtown Denver and ONLY Downtown Denver, you don't want any of the other 12 areas "near" your location. Before you select 4 star, Downtown Denver, and you bid, you find the areas you can select that don't have 4 star hotels available like Aurora, Stapleton, etc then you can add these areas with no worry of staying so far from your destination because they don't have 4 star's.
