This discussion is about a sitting president violating the trust of the American people by intentionally trying to circumvent congress, the elected representatives of the people and the legislative branch of our government on the matter of a backdoor scheme to grant amnesty to a particular group of law-breaking people. However, race (not necessarily Obama's race) is still a part of this discussion. Not because it needs to be...because the left has forced the race component into the discussion of illegal immigration. That just can't be denied by anyone looking at this in an objective manner.

Migrant workers have been coming into Arizona (its the only state I know) for generations, with no one bating an eye about it, and frankly until Chavez, no one really gave a crap. It seems like once we won the War on Crime and the Drug War (or gave up?) the .gov had to make up a new political struggle to anger voters, and this seems to me to be it.
I see no problem with work cards. You work, you pay income taxes, but you aren't a citizen, your kids aren't citizens, and you have to go back to whence you came every year (could be 6 months) or so and then get a new one. It sure worked come harvest time in rural AZ, a lot of time consuming food to harvest and cotton in the US system depended on this. Not to mention a ton of manufacturing and labor jobs in Tucson itself.
I can't see how this could piss off either side. The conservatives get cheap unskilled labor and the liberals get to make the poor happy, and I get to keep my civil rights, and don't get me started on my civil rights. ARGH! SEARCH AND SEIZURE!! I don't want to have to show my "papers" to .gov officials, because I am driving away from Mexico and they "suspect" I'm illegal, what does that mean? tan? Spanish speaking? that sure sounds a lot like 3/4 of Tucson to me!
The problem with where this is going is away from the point of the OP. Everyone is so sensitive to any sentence concerning race, be it black, white, and everything inbetween. Seems anymore you cant put white in a sentence with pride, power, confidence, anything that sounds empowering, because its racist. Take it with a grain of salt unless its direct and slandering, I doubt anyone on this board is a huge supporter of race wars, given its broad range of members and common love for the firearm. See you make a lot of good valid points that could be said of any liberal. And then I read a joke about the "Half-White House" and I have to think about why it's a joke. Like, why is that relevant? It doesn't help your argument, and it makes it look like his race is something that's related to the issue at hand.

When we say illegal immigrant, none of us can pretend that one specific image doesn't enter into our minds. Perhaps most illegal immigrants fit that image, I don't know the figures, but I know that if the one illegal alien I know went to Arizona and wandered around for a year she would never be stopped and questioned about her status because she's white. Conversley, I have an old friend in Los Angeles who was Mexican (naturalized last year), lived in this country her whole life (100% legally like her whole family) but would be stopped in a second because of her appearance*.
* I know that's hyperbole, but it seems appropriate considering some of the bollocks I've seen in this thread :D

As a person who has been through those check points a few hundred times, they aren't the most serious of interviews.
