View Full Version : anyone have an action block I can borrow?
Got a new barrel and need to install some handguards on another upper.
I had ordered a action block, have been waiting months for it, talked to them and they said they still don't know when it will get in, so I canceled the order.
I shouldn't need it for more than a few hours. I have all the stuff I need, just need an action block to secure the upper!
send me a PM!
thanks!

Is this the block that goes in the magwell so you can put upper in a vise to work on ? If that's what you mean I have one you can borrow. [Beer]

I think it is supposed to wrap around the upper receiver to support it. I don't know if the ones that go into the magwell can handle the torque from putting on a free float handguard?
anyone ever used one like staglefty has?

I don't think this is what your looking for. Went and put it in and I don't see putting a lot of torque on upper with this. I think this is just so you can use 2 hands when working on upper. Sorry !

I Believe the one stagLefy is referring to is used to support the lower in a vise while working on it to prevent the Magwell from twisting/Collapsing
You need an Upper receiver action block which wraps around the upper AND Has the Insert for the upper (Slides into the upper as a BCG Would) to prevent your vice from crushing/twisting the upper.

Sorry, I would have seen this earlier and posted, but I was way crashed. It's finals week. I'm going till I drop or everything is done.
I have one. I'm in Castle Rock. You can use it, but you pick up and you can just mail it or drive it back. PM me if you want the address.

I'll be home all day today working my History final. I hate history. Absolutely worthless for a Chemistry major...
yeah it is a flat top
Then put it sideways in a smooth jawed vice. Done.
I have not used my action blocks on flat top uppers in years.

Huh, never thought of that. Pretty slick. I suspect you want the top facing out to make it easier to index the gas tube hole?

Ejection port facing up.
Waaaay easier than blocks.

I have thought about that, maybe wrapping it in tape, but I am kinda sckerred!
I think i will get in touch with MB888 and get it done that way![Beer]
Put some small scraps of wood between the receiver and the vise. That will protect the finish and the wood will absorb the pressure so you dont deform the receiver.
