View Full Version : Hate Rant: Defecating in Sales threads

What the hell is wrong with some of you? I have seen more people defecate into "for sale" threads lately than ever before in my short time on this site. You think something is priced inappropriately? Fine, send the person a PM about it. Hell, I've done this. I was trying to help the guy out, but damn, I didn't crap all over his sales thread.

Second, if someone has underpriced an item, send them a PM. Don't post it in the damn thread. Not only does this piss off potential buyers, it makes the person selling the item look like (and probably feel) ignorant as hell.

Third, if you don't want to do a bill of sale and the seller does then don't buy it. Seriously, what kind of narcisistic bullshit is this... You are the purchaser. Your place isn't to dictate the terms of sale. Either accept them, ask about them IN A PM, or keep your Fn fingers off the keyboard. Consider your lack of purchase invoking your power of selection through consumption, or whatever it takes to make you feel better about it. Just don't bitch about it in the thread.

The P in PM stands for private. Get it? [Stick]

there have been a few threads in where I wasn't interested in the item but wanted to make a snarky comment about something.... I just keep my mouth shut.

the trouble it could cause is just not worth any laughs I might get.

some people can take a joke, others go from zero to frothing insane especially when money is involved.

I agree. The sales thread isn't about calling someone out over something you may not like or agree with. Their item, their ad. If they insist on something you don't agree with, or you'd like to ask about or point something out, the PM is the proper venue for that (Or, as SA Friday said, simply ignore that item). I've had mostly positive experiences with other forum members regarding the sales thread, and I've always thought that was one of the best things about this site is that it isn't conducted like ARFCOM, that a lot of us actually know each other and self-police this site. Even when some of us disagree on some things, we keep it civil (usually!) and while I may disagree with someone's opinion, I respect their right to it. But NOT in the sales thread!

It's against the rules here. Report it to a moderator and they'll take care of it. They (the mods) are busy people with lives, so don't expect them to read every post on every ad looking for bad behavior.

I agree with this. The main comments that should be there are PM sent or Where are the pictures?. The general discussion is a good place to post comments, with links, about weird, over or under priced sales. I'd really like to know about delusional sales. They can be entertaining.

Tim K also pointed out that the moderators should be notified. This is a fast moving board so they will be behind.

People can be misinformed about what kind of gun they have or the values or how to rate it. PM's can help them correct this. I think most everybody here is honest, strange but honest.

Hooray for our weekly rant about the for sale section![Muaha]

OK, I'm better now. I'm primarily scandinavian, and we have a tendency to burn fast and flame out. It was Jer's for sale thread (after a couple of other's that I've seen over the last week or two) that pushed me over the edge. He flat out got wronged, overtly and multiple times in the same 'for sale' thread. Really pissed me off as you can see.

Recently had this issue. Rather than shit on my own thread, I took my issue with the poster to PM, then had the Mods remove the offending post.

Some folks don't get it and because we are easy going about the rules, don't feel they have to abide by them for some reason.

Some of the responsibility is in the hands of the Seller. Just asking the mods to remove the post(s) general clears up the ass-hatery. I'm sure if that happens enough, corrective action will follow.

HIJACK WARNING!

And if we're going to bitch about things... WTF is up with people having to post all of their items separately? Just cluttering up the damn sales areas, bumping other posts down 2 and 3 pages just because you feel some silly need to not consolidate. Now that shits annoying.

Is this because I asked questions about a style of shotgun I'd never heard about before ?

Probably not. Other people were comparing price on the extended tube mag and one guy was comparing a completely different gun.

6/10

Not enough cursing....
No name calling....

However, I'll give you a +5 for:

Great coherent thoughts with proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation marks with no cursing or name calling.

So total tally is 11/10! Good rant.

There wasn't enough cursing because I had to edit it three times in fear Hoser was going to call and chew me out. It was really brutal.

Every time I get a new PM, I always think to myself, "What'd I do this time?" heh

Hoser has my cell phone number. He might have called me about it. It was that brutal.

Hoser: "Hey..."
SA Friday: "I know, I know... damnit."
Hoser: "Hey!"

HAHA.

I'd have to agree, unless you're saying "good guy", "Gun is nice I have one (or have shot this one)", or "PM sent" you should mind your damn business

personally i enjoy watching the bitch fest.

I fall into the group that you should just keep your mouth shut, but I will admit a couple times I have not...like the retarding asking $8K for an FN SCAR.

Lately I have just laid back and enjoyed watching the shit storms develop![Tooth]

Ranting about the "for sales"

I am all about a guy trying to make a buck. When you continually sell New in package stuff and you are obviously running even a part-time shop stay the[Rant2] out of the private posters sections and ask for your own!
I get a tad fluffed when I come in and see like a dozen new threads from the same guy and my crap suddenly is on page 3.

I report it and nothing seems to happen... so I quit reporting it.
I'm not calling out names but I think we all know who I am talking about

Thank god, I thought I was losing my mind. That particular thread seemed like a magnet for the know-it-alls. They had NO idea what they were talking about and just wanted to try to low ball me. I got PMs later with some stupid low offers so that's all they were trying to do. Fucking n00bs. [Bang] There's a certain etiquette that one should exercise when posting to for sale threads and most people get it. Some don't.

Is this because I asked questions about a style of shotgun I'd never heard about before ?

Nah, that was fine. I don't mind legitimate questions about the item and I don't think the rules on this forum disallow that, thankfully. It amazes me how some other forums won't even allow discussion about the item at all. Seems stupid to not be able to discuss a thread topic... isn't that what forums are for?

Probably not. Other people were comparing price on the extended tube mag and one guy was comparing a completely different gun.

Yeah, that's what was irritating me too. I kept waiting for some guy to compare it to his 870 or something at the rate that thread was going.

Really? You want to come by and see my 'part time shop' so you can see for yourself that I'm no different than anyone posting in that section? The reason your posts fall on deaf ears is because enough people know me in person on this forum that they know better. Just because I may have more items for sale doesn't mean I'm any different than you, I just can't make up my mind as easily. It's all relative and I have NO shop that I sell stuff out of. I'm a hobbyist so you need to find another channel for your anger because it's misplaced. You've been here for a couple months now so I suggest you sit back, button the lip and try to learn a little more before you start calling people out publicly and making yourself look foolish.

In that case I will withdraw my previous statement and tender my sincere apology. I know when I'm wrong and apparently at least three other members do too. [Tooth]
