Another workplace shooting. What drives people to believe this is going to solve anything? I just don't get it.

Psycologically speaking, people do this sort of act as a "revenge". In their delusional minds, they believe that the other party had wronged them, it's their sense of entitlment, no matter how lazy/anti-authoriative, etc they themselves were. In killing other people, they feel vindicated and now hold power over some one elses life and it makes them feel like they are higher on the ladder now and reinforces even more destructive behavoir.

I say it's the lack of teaching of personal responsibility, the value of life, standards, morals, etc... basically the "my babee ain't dew nuttin'" and the "who am I to tell others what they ought to do" type people/stuff.

You could be right. That stuff is way over my head and I tend to see things in a more black/white reality. It just seems that if someone possessed even the most basic of coping skills they'd decide on another course of action.

They would if they had a concrete understanding of right vs wrong....

But I've noticed that a lot of kids today really believe in no absolute truth, which leads to a severe lack of (once again) standards/morals/belief system/etc...

We are going downhill fast.

20 years ago: Is it right and will it help?
Today: How do I get away with it and what will I get?

Revenge is always messy! As many times as this happens it never loses the "Shock" factor!

There was a similar shooting in a Florida Publix parking lot a little over a month ago where the Manager fired someone and she actually left and came back! There was time to think and rationalize, but that didn't occur!

I agree it's like you said, that person had the power over their life and fire that person so then that person took power into thier own hands to control the other persons life, a sad circle to watch unfold

I've fired people before, and I just can't imagine those people turning on me for it[Help]

This is messed up, I hate hearing this for two reasons: one is that it's tragic and has no point and the second is that it just gives the left more ammunition to want gun control.

and then the 1st question back to the left- was this a gun-free zone already?

I don't see anything in the article to indicate one way or the other.

Personally, it makes me want to carry at work (but not allowed by company policy), since they just had another layoff a couple weeks ago..

"Omar". "May have been racially motivated". "Discrimination".

anger issues along with getting caught, along with a sense of entitlement to a job due to race I think are the biggest players.

what pisses me off is that people can not control themselves and blame the rest of the world for their problems.

Hannah said Thornton had complained for a long time about racial harassment, and claimed he had pictures in his cell phone of the N-word and a hangman's noose scrawled on a bathroom wall at Hartford Distributors.

Now I am in now way Condoning the shooter's actions.

I am going to say that it isn't all as clear as blaming the rest of the world for his problems.

I believe his coworkers that Allegedly did this were wrong.
Management was wrong for not acting on it immediately
He was wrong for Allegedly stealing beer and putting himself into a position for termination.
He was wrong for lashing out in a violent manner against persons that honestly, probably did nothing against him.
Just my opinion.

now, all of that being said.
Lets wait to pass judgment until we hear all of it.

I am not going to go too far on this, but a self entitlement issue and anger toward/ a hate whitey attitude has certainly developed in this country. from all races. look at AZ, look at the recent black woman in high power that denied the guy because he was white...or the ~98% unity amongst blacks voting for obama in the 2008 election

look at most stories out there and race all of a sudden becomes a factor...like this guy has any kind of a reason to start shooting people because they drew a noose and the N word on a bathroom stall...that shit happens all over the place and you don't see these types of shootings every day.
if there was racial discrimination then why didn't he get a lawyer and sue the living piss out of the company and possibly the union if they wouldn't represent him against the company?

why do they have footage of him getting caught on tape stealing beer? maybe his photos will come out, but who is to say he didn't draw them on there...there aren't cameras in bathrooms to place blame.

I know it may be quick to pass any judgment after reading a few paragraphs in an article, but at the end of the day, 9 people are dead and 2 wounded all because this fuckstain decided he wanted some revenge for getting fired...fuck him.

He killed eight people and then killed himself. I think that goes a bit beyond a sense of entitlement or hating whitey or some fantasy world in 1990 where nothing bad ever happened.

I was reading the news report on this, they had the shooter identified but there was no picture. I thought to myself "why no photo, was the guy black or something?"

well gee willikers

heard a comic one time talking about crime, and blacks and whites.

he joked about how white people had such a skewed view on crime because they thought it was just blacks and mexicans doing it. He said when was the last time you saw a black serial killer, or a black guy go in and shoot someplace up?

well the grim sleeper was black. now this guy.

until everyone starts taking to heart what Dr. King was talking about, things will never get better.

All African-Americans, all serial killers. The whole straight white-male american serial killer thing is a myth.

From a profiling perspective, mass murderer's all have a catastrophic event (being fired is the number one, divorce is the number two) leading to a suicidal rage intertwined with the desire for revenge on those whom they feel have wronged them in some way. It's an end game, always. They almost always use guns too.

Circumstances or not, this was a person with a mental defect just like murderers before him. Bottom line, a sociopath.

Dumbest thing I've ever heard. Clearly it is because of a sense of entitlement due to race. [/sarcasm]

I think he would have had a good case for self defense. He didn't know who left the death threats scribbled on the bathroom walls.
