They "rejected" my app for a purchase yesterday saying my DL was expired (it expires in 2014). The app was later resubmitted and approved but now I cant get back to denver to pick the gun up until next week at the earliest due to my work schedule. I bought and RTF2 G17 for the GSSF shoot next week, but now I may not have it in time. I am just pissed that I waited 45 min for the check and they screwed up.

That sucks !! Thanks for explaining though.
They still have me on file as being born in Alabama (CO born and raised) after multiple times dealing with their BS.
They have my dad's birthdate down as mine. There's only a forty year difference...
I'm glad that we're being protected by such a diligent government bureaucracy.
anyone know if they are actual state workers, or is it contracted out? Not sure if I like the thought of giving all my info if it's farmed out. Not sure I like giving all my info if it's got anything to do with government period[Tooth].

Its contracted out to the chimpanzees in the Denver Zoo, as far as I can tell.

Hey, I resemble that remark :).

Naw, the chimps scored too high on the test. and weren't eligible for the position..

Can the chimps come out to the base and take over for our pilots? They'd be easier to train, and be friendlier and have better manners....

When they run my credit report it shows I had a mortgage before I was born... and a credit card....
Yes, I'm THAT good!
Did they screw it up, or was it entered wrong by the sales person?
Don't know about scout but mine was/is a case of some asshole galavanting around with my SS# and name commiting crimes in states I've never been to. My CBI record looks like a mishmash of his info and mine.

They screwed it up. I could see the computer, everything entered was correct. We double verified when it came back rejected. Sent it a second time and it went through.

I guess the general consenus here is that there is a "file" at CBI on all of us and the information in that file is wrong.
I'm going to decline to tell you how I know, but I do know that belief is wrong. When a request comes through either electronically or via phone, the civilain staff then comb through all the databases they have available to them using the name, dob, SSN if provided and determine if there is information in those databases for that person. Problems pop up for those people who have a more common name and it requires more investigation. The 'John Smith' guy are really screwed!
Sometimes, that person is denied and urged to file an appeal, which then has a different section of CBI comparing fingerprint cards submitted with the appeal with those on the offender record to determine if they are the same person. If they are not, then the appeal goes forward and gets the approval by a supervisor.
Some have argued that they should look at the physical description information and see they aren't the big, little, fat, what have you on the description of the offender. They cannot do that as those items are subjective by the arresting officer and can differ greatly, depending on who is the one filling out the fingerprint card.
It isn't a perfect system and there is human error involved, just like in everything else. I'll give you some stats that I have access to for Insta-check.
For 2009:
Purchase approvals: 38,278
Purchase denials: 1,043
January through May 2010:
Purchase approvals: 32,961
Purchase denials: 969
2009 Criminal fingerprint cards processed 250,000 (rounded); civil (job related) fingerprint cards processed 87,000 (rounded).
The employees stay busy!
Just food for thought...

Not sure on that processing fee, that must have been to the dealer for their charges not CBI?
You'll have to find out from CBI what is going on. Could be just about anything anymore, outstanding parking tickets, child support, a child who got tickets in your car and you don't know about it.
Yeah, you generally don't have to pay when you pass. $20 for two tries isn't unreasonable.
How is it legal to deny your right to purchase a firearm because of an unpaid parking ticket?
Siccmade
03-11-2011, 22:32
Well the prossecing thing is weird but the other stuff you said wouldnt apply to me cause my kids dont drive and i dont have child support and i have no tickets so now i just wait and it sucks lol and parking tickets shouldnt even be talked about or looked up when buying a gun.

Because obviously if you have an unpaid ticket you are a violent criminal and going to hurt the childrens with the automatic assault weapon with high capacity clips and the barrel shroud thingy that goes up!

The state and other agencies want their money. If you owe on unpaid parking tickets, back child support, court fees unpaid, etc. They flag your name in the systems and you don't get to renew your drivers license, buy guns or other fun things without paying up.
My neighbor had applied and was granted her CCW, but a few weeks after that she was unable to buy a gun, denied. Her daughter was parking and getting tickets and not paying them, so they flagged her because the car was registered in Mom's name. She paid the $200 in parking tickets and the gun purchase went through no problems.

I got "turned down" last month; turns out, it was the rocket scientist behind the counter who entered the wrong zip code into his computer. All turned out OK, and didn't cost me any $$ but I did have to wait an additional 45 minutes for the second run on my info.

Yeah i went in and put in my first app for the gun, came back after a 1hr and denied. Sent another in and waited another 1hr an denied then paid them $20 and now just waiting for the reseaon why i was denied and i hope its somthing simple like the wrong zip code lol

CBI doesn't charge for the check. Your dealer is allowed to charge up to a certain amount for the check. I believe it is $20.
Last year, CBI tried get legislation approved to make Insta-check a 'cash funded' unit, with a up front fee paid by those who purchased firearms and not a general fund paid entity and that proposal went down in flames. It was an attempt to help out the state budget and hire some additional employees to run the backgrounds, but no one was interested in that.

Yeeeaaaahhhh...because the FBI's version is so much faster? Ask someone from another state who uses the FBI's version of Insta-check how long it takes to get clearance on a firearm purchase.

you are missing the point. the constitution never said a damn thing about getting a background check. fuck them, fuck the laws, fuck their bullshit anti-gun agenda. fire every single one of them. I don't need a background check to get a gun. we need less government, less laws, and less bullshit.

The amount of time to run the CBI back ground check at the CO Springs gun show last weekend was taking 45 minutes to an hour or more. Bastards!!

Until we start sending more violent criminals to the promised land, I fear the CBI will be a part of the process.

Shit, just be glad you don't live in Illinois. 3 day wait for a HG, 24 hour wait for a long gun with the background check. Blame the Brady bill. Also because states do not share info, ANYTHING from out of state will get you denied from the CBI until you appeal the denial and send in the paperwork from the other state. It shows up as "status unknown". Don't ask me how I know this:rolleyes:

Been there, done that. Lived in IL for 10 yrs (minus the 1 yr hiatus I took to Kimchiland).
Got denied for my Beretta 92FS purchase back in '93 (after paying for teh gun, having it trtansferred from a MO dealer to an IL dealer, and waiting my 3 days). All because I had moved 2 blocks down the same street. My new address didn't match the address in IL's records. Took another week to get everything straightened out.
You all need to quit bitchin about background checks (BC). It's well documented that no bad guy has been able to acquire a firearm since the BC system has gone into place. In fact, all crimes with firearms committed since the BC system has been implemented have been committed by so called "lawful" gun owners. Ban 'em all; that's what I say.
And in that vane, I will be manning a firearms turn-in location at my home for those who wish to make themselves right in the eyes of the law.

I lived in the Chicago Metro area for almost 30 years and had a FFL01 for almost all of that time. I am well familiar with the Illinois BS and Democrat political BS.
Now, if I were to turn in to theGinsue, an "almost" complete old H&R .38 (suicide special) I'd hope to get a minimum of $150 for it.[Tooth][Tooth]

actually the state has "liability, errors and ommisions, and judgment protection insurance" .... the insurance company pays... and then they tell the state either shape up these boneheads or we will jack up your rating so bad that you cant afford it.. and the chit will roll downhill....and they are at the bottom of the hill ...

I have to say... CBI treated me right today.
Had to get them some court documents from my teen years in the 80's to clear some stuff up. (long story)... but anyway, I handed the lady my paperwork and she told me that it would take 4 weeks to process. WHAT?!
Well, I'll be on orders starting Sunday. Yes, I'm in the military. So, I informed her of this and she promptly called a supervisor and explained the situation to him. To my amazement, they're going to take care of it first thing in the morning.
I love "head of the line" privileges in uniform.

You sure? State is self insured on everything I've dealt with thus far.
