View Full Version : Whats better, fiberglass or wood handle
I found this awesome double headed axe and they offer it in wood or fiberglass. What is the preferred material for an axe handle?
Thanks
Wood is heavier. You can also soak a wood handle in water to swell it and tighten the fit if necessary. I've got a wood handle, and have only handled fiberglass.
I really couldn't suggest either way though.

Supposedly the fiberglass handles absorb the shock better but I'm no expert on the difference. [Coffee]
All preference. I'd more worry about the axe head itself than wearing it was sporting wood or fiberglass. For my opinion, I like the fiberglass. It just seems to hang in there longer than wood.

I prefer fiberglass. It absorbs impact well and lasts longer than wood. I do rock collecting and small sledges are used to break rock. I used to use wooden handled ones and had to keep several with me since I'd break a few handles a season. The fiberglass held up much better. OTOH, it is harder to replace.

Det cord. Of course it ain't great for wood splitting. Probably could modify a harpoon gun for that.
