View Full Version : Great day at the range.

It was just one of those days at the range that will stick with ya long after the day is over. It wasn't too hot, no pre than 10mph winds, not another living soul out there, and all the prep paid off. I was shooting Nosler partition loads out of my Rem 700 in 7mm Mag out to 600 yds and breaking down the hold-overs for the various ranges. The Scope on this (hunting) rifle has hash marks for better estimations. I was pretty much MOA out to 600 yds with it. Side note: I have to do something with the damn trigger on that thing. It's like 5 lbs, way too heavy. Had more than one shot lost due to the trigger. Regardless, the reload with a 160gr Nosler Partition and the gun did their part and that thing is ready to do short of a little TLC assistance from a friend or two.

I also did some AR shooting out to 600 yds today with my long range AR and some 69gr SMK reloads with Tac. Got a lot of dope dialed in on that thing today. It's way too much fun to bash the hell out of the 12" steel at 600 yds with an AR.

I got a lot of the trajectory figured out on those two guns today, and even got to work on doping the wind better today. Just something calming about working a rifle out past a quarter mile. The precision is there, and now the accuracy is just ab out dialed in.

The picture looks closer than 600 yards.

Next time you go out, let me know, you should still have my number I think. I would like to get my rifle out past the 200 I have access to and learn how to actually use the scope, lol...

Good shooting. I wish I could get out more and shoot longer ranges

Reset the trigger and adjusted the weight on my Rem 700 last night. Dear god why didn't I do that sooner. It's at about 3.5 lbs now and I got it lighter, but it feels better to me at this weight. I am so glad I picked this rifle up before they went to that aweful Accu-x or whatever they call that new POS design.

I should probably take this to a friend of mine in Pueblo and have him float the barrel a little more and bed the stock.

Fri, would you be up to doing some trigger work on my LR setup sometime?... Stock trigger but I've heard they can be adjusted pretty well. I've seen the youtbe vids on how to do it, would just be "scared" not to have an "experienced" eye checking things out.

Is it a Rem 700 older style trigger? If so, we can set something up, but I wouldn't be scared at all if I were you. You are more than capable. There is a bunch of info on the net about how to do it, and short of pulling the screws all the way out, you can't really screw it up permanently.

This is about all you need.

No Sir it's the Howa 1500, .308.

I tore it apart once and found a video on youtube that was well done. I just didn't trust myself to screw something up with all the disclaimers of "too loose and it won't fire, yada, yada, yada"

Bear, didn't you recently have an issue with the trigger getting all locked up as well?

Nice shooting SAFriday. Did you look at the camera and declare "All head shots!" when you were done with each group?

I did. Recently had a DBM installed on her but I didn't know that I needed to file a little of the new trigger guard down to allow reset so it kept locking up. But that is all fixed now.

I was practicing shooting the hostages. There fault for getting taken in the first place.

Seriously though, it's damn hard to see the hits through the scope past about 200-250 yds as it is, but about the only way to see the hit is a white target. That helps out to about 350-400 and then you either need a spotting scope or a reactive target. I really like a steel plate with dirt backing to call the splash, but that's impossible with the 7mm mag. That sucker comes off the bench during recoil.
