1911 slide lock wont work

Just picked up a Springfield Champ lightweight 1911.

It is perfect, have not fired it yet. But when I put in an empty mag the slide lock will not work. I have to manually do it. is there a spring broken? Big issue? Poorly fit mags?

Thanks. The slide lock would be a nice thing to have working. as far as the rest of the gun, it looks and functions with no issues.

It should work when racking the slide with an empty magazine inserted,. Did you tap up on the bottom of the magazine to make sure it was fully inserted and locked in ?

Figured it out.

it has a magwell on it and the mag is a flat bottom, when I put in an empty one my hand could not get it in far enough with one hit because of the extended magwell. when i snaped it in finally it worked fine.
