View Full Version : What's in a name?

So on the CMP forum they have an explain you name thread, but we get to have avatars here so explain that too.
I'll start.
Jordan is my first name, LS initials, and 19 is my "lucky number".
My avatar is the Rock-Ola logo. My Rock-Ola is my favorite M1 Carbine I own. For those of your that don't know Rock-Ola made Juke Boxes ,amongst other things, prior to and after the war.
Half the reason I love M1 Carbines so Much is they were mostly made by Non gun makers, except Winchester, IBM (IBM is my Second Favorite) and a bunch others that either merged with other companies, closed, or changed names.
Garands were made by gun companies during WWII, so is like "wow you made a gun!" (sarcasm included)
GIs used to say "Rock-Olas play the sweetest music this side of a Funeral"[BooHoo]
If this has been done Please save my dignity and delete.
Word!

Pretty simple, it's a black Ford, and it's a '76. Favorite toy, I have spent WAY too much on it.
Avatar? I can't resist setting the "High score" on those things, I hate the fact they don't go triple digits anymore.
huero is mexican for whiteboy.

My last name starts with O so I grew up as Steve-O. Yes, long before Jack Ass. I inserted opia on Steve as a narcissistic joke mostly playing off of the 2nd definition of the word Utopia below.
Utopia
1. an imaginary island described in Sir Thomas More's Utopia (1516) as enjoying perfection in law, politics, etc.
2. an ideal place or state.
3. any visionary system of political or social perfection.
Hayes - last name... pretty easy.

Zundfolge

Zundfolge: German for "Firing Order"
Way back when I was a mechanic in a shop that specialized in German cars and on German cars you will find the "Zundfolge" followed by a series of numbers somewhere under the hood.
I started using the name back in the early days of the internet (first used as a player name in Quake) and I've just used it ever since.
Hell, more people know me as Zundfolge than Mike :p
TS, some of my initials, the 12000 part? who knows just sounded good (probably from some sign-up where you need letters and numbers) the avatar I change here and there but it's currently Johnny Depp in Fear and Loathing, also no reasoning just liked it.
Jake is my nom de brush. I could have and should have changed my name for free when I was naturalized to save the hassle of explaining to a collector that they need to make their check out to a different name. Ah well.
My avatar is a photograph of my wife from her modeling days.

My name came from when Xbox Live first came out, I was trying to think of a name for it and since my favorite game is the Half Life series I came upon the name Half Live.
My avatar is the logo of the Half Life game with my Screen Name. Also, I have it tattoo'ed on my arm.

Awesome, Half Life 2 series is some of the best video gaming I've played. It's like being the star in a huge blockbuster movie.
Maybe this is where the logo comes from:

Or it could just be Lambda

I picked mine because I'm just 'One Guy', a normal, everyday person and 67 is my birthyear.
The avatar I just put up and is a M1117 Guardian ASV that I spent two weeks learning how to maintain, drive and shoot.

gnihcraes - searching backwards. Usually isn't taken as a screen name or email name etc. when signing up for something on the internet. I needed something unique about 13 years ago, so that's what I picked.
Avatar - changes when I feel like it. Currently a rendering of the new Lindsey Flanigan Courthouse downtown denver. Work related, but will change it soon to something different.

Lambda indicates the radioactivity decay constant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exponential_decay) in nuclear physics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_physics) and radioactivity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radioactivity). This constant is very simply related (by a multiplicative constant) to the half-life (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half-life) of any radioactive material.

I was a Federal agent for the USAF OSI for 11 years. SA is the acronym for Special Agent. Friday? Well, just the facts ma'am.
I change my avatar pretty regular on this site, but currently it's the Lewis-Dot structure of nitroglycerin. (Well, not exactly a Lewis Dot, but close enough). I'm a Chemistry, Concentration in Criminalistics Major at Metro.
Mine is just my initials and my bday... Nothin special...

Ah, the value of some good learn'in.
I guess I should share my story.
My name is theGinsue, and I'm an alcoh....What? Oh, wrong site.
theGinsue comes from a nickname I received while I worked for US Space Command somewhere around 1997. I typically wore my BDU's (cammies), and always had a folding knife in a sheath on one hip and a Leatherman in a sheath on the other hip.
My last name ends with "sue" and given the bladed armament, one day a contractor I worked with dubbed me "Ginsue". This immediately stuck.
A short while into having the new nick-name I was told that it was really more of a title, like "The President" because of all of the ways it started getting used. If you had severe bad luck - as I do/did, you were said to have "Ginsue luck". If you bought the top end/best model of a product (as I used to do), you were said to have "Ginsue'd it". And so on, and so forth.
So, the nickname/title became "The Ginsue" and I've been stuck with it ever since. There are a lot of folks who know me through my best friend who have no idea what my real name actually is, they just know me as Ginsue/The Ginsue.
Since I've had several other nicknames through the years that weren't particularly flattering, I chose to embrace the whole Ginsue thing. And here I am today, still using it.
ETA: Avatar: Currnetly my "Southpark Ginsue", but I change it often when I get tired of using the mythosaur skull which is a symbolof the Mandalorians, well known galactic bounty hunters.

"I looked and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hell was following close behind him."

Username: BigBear. Nickname. Most of my close friends don't even call me by my name, it's always "Bear". I'm a larger fellow hence the "Big". The "Bear" is an old nickname I've had since highschool. Before I had my car wreck I played some ball. On the feild I kept knocking people out on one-on-one tackling drills (edit: I've taken years of MA so I knew where to hit... hehe, cheater) , but off the field I was a low key, shy-type person. Everyone said I was like a bear, hibernating off the field but mauling on it. It transfered over to my music life and I've been stuck with it for about a decade now, lol. It also helps that my last name sounds very close to "Bear" as well, lol.
Avatar: Glock 18. Just something I fancy and would like to have.
Troublco
08-23-2010, 09:41
Troublco - Trouble was a nickname hung on my by a former girlfriend that just stuck. She said it was because I am trouble, and other friends said I was either always in it or causing it. So they made sure it was permanent. Of course this was out at the base, and some of my friends thought it was so good that they adopted various forms of it too. One was Double Trouble, and our Commander at the time started as Major Trouble. (He retired as General Trouble.) We all had aircrew type name badges made to match. So when someone says "here comes trouble", I say yes, and I have the nametag to prove it. Works well as a conversation starter. Just added the "CO" for Colorado.
My avatar is a picture of a couple of F-106's from my first unit. It was the last active flying unit of F-106's in service.

Thanks for posting. I've recently noticed that in many youtube comments, anyone who is under 16 years-old goes out of their way to say so. I watched "I hung my head" after your video and every other comment is "I'm a 14 year-old Johnny Cash fan!"

I think that's probably because so many people under 30 were never introduced to Johnny Cash. If not for his NIN cover, I would probably not have gone out of my way to listen to his other stuff. I've found a half dozen Johnny Cash tracks that are not on my top-rated list.

I love how he started covering other artists like NIN and Tom Petty. He's got good stuff.
