View Full Version : Taliban embedded journalist
Not sure if the title is entirely accurate, but this Norweigan journo "embeds" with the Taliban. Of note: their most feared American weapon is "cargo aircraft converted to strafe the ground." Hell yeah, AC-130U tear it up. That's good because those things are cheap... relatively speaking, anyway.

U Boat baby.
How do you want it? 25mm or 105mm at a time?

How do you want it? 30mm or 105mm at a time?
My uncle flew on ... well I guess today it'd get the designation AC-3. A DC-3 that had 3 mini-guns sticking out the left side. His job was to stand at the very back and toss flares out the door so they could see what they were shooting. And helping get new ammo boxes from where they were strapped down along the centerline of the plane.
But yeah, the modern Spooky and Spectre have what, 105mm howitzer, a couple 40mm bofors, and some 7.62 miniguns? Did they change the loadout not long ago?

The Hercules is one of those things that so ugly, it's pretty. The A-10 is another warplane in that category.

They did. The AC-130U hit the streets not long after the Somalia AC-130H crash.
The U-Boat has a 25mm gatling, 40mm and 105mm cannons.
I have a bunch of pics. I will see if I can find them.

It was the AC-47, could have been Spooky, Puff the Magic Dragon, or others. The first one had six .50's and it was called Terry and the Pirates.

I have a question: Where do they get power to re-charge their radios they are using? I can't imagine they use them several times a day like that and don't re-charge them often. Unless using alkaline batteries.

My question is more along the lines of, holy fuck how do those guys have working radios? Every frequency between ULF and terahertz should have enough jamming interference to light up an incandescent lightbulb.
Radios are for heathens, boys, you don't get anything you can't assemble by hand in the Khyber pass.

At about 4.30, isn't he changing the batteries? Looks like he is unwrapping a fresh set.

lots of people in the comments whining about the war, dead kids, etc.
my comment: "all they had to do was give up bin laden after 9/11 and we never would have invaded."

I was wondering these exact two things. If they have teh ability to power radios and are not being denied the frequencies to use the radios, WE are failing to do our job on that front.

+1 this
Things are only "Western devil/infidel" material if it helps thier purpose. Thus radios are fine to use and listen to, along with cigarrettes and alcohol and playboys, until they defeat the Western scum... then those things will magically become off limits again.
I don't think the west can take credit for alcohol, smoking, or pornography.
Rgr Stu, just trying to make a point on hipocrisy and stuff.
I know bub. I just found it funny that you picked the three most universal "sins" out there to illustrate your point.
eh, slow morning, I couldn't think any deeper! HAHA.

Yep, missed that.
So how does a journalist "embed" with the enemy?
Journalist: Hey guys, I know you hate me and everything I stand for, but I'm going to live with y'all and take some pictures, is that kewl?

Embedded & Beheaded sound too similar for my comfort.

That there, you did, I see it.
Morbid, but funny... and tragically sad all at teh same time.
It's a serious question though if anyone has any insight, how does an "American Infidel" journalist actually embed with the "enemy"? That just doesn't seem like a smart idea no matter how badly they want the story...
He's Norwegian. Do they have a dog in the fight? Whatever you think about the Taliban, they seem pretty adept at PR.
One of the guys in the video ends up kidnapping him later on.

one or two simple reasons....................
unsecure radios tell your enemies ( IE us) the exact same thing it tells your buddies......... and can be used for triangulation if you jam the freq's you don't get that info .
