So the lady and I want to get out of town for a few days for Labour day, and wanted to get some suggestions on where to go. Her first thought was Moab. Mine was stay in Alamosa, because it's closer to the sand dunes, black canyon, etc...

I'm not looking to go wheeling, shooting, etc, just somewhere with cool scenery. Any suggestions? we're thinking of staying within a 6ish hour radius of Denver.

Ordway and the million dollar highway.
The Durango Silverton railroad trip cannot be beat.

I think you mean Ouray (Ordway is out in the eastern plains).

But yeah, I gotta second Ouray ... the wife and I stayed there last October and it was great. The drive to Silverton on the Million Dollar Highway was excellent (got lunch at a place in Silverton called "Mother Clucker's Chicken" ... had the best chicken philly I've ever had).

Be sure to take some cash and check out the Mr Grumpy Pants Brewing Company (they don't take plastic) Be prepared, the guy that runs the place is odd (but he makes good beer).

Honestly if I could find a way to make a living there I'd move to Ouray in a heartbeat.

damn, so many good ideas. got a few from people at work as well. A co-workers family owns a house in Grand Lake I could use. A possible house to use in Telluride. And one I just thought of, and didn't consider because I thought it was father away: Mount Rushmore. I didn't realize it's about the same distance...

Rushmore is pretty close. Not sure you would want to try it over a holiday though.. Just sayin'.

Rushmore might be OK since school is back in. It is nice up there and pretty inexpensive. If you go to Telluride or Ouray you must do some wheeling or at least go on a tour.

Cool, thanks for the suggestions. As it's looking right now, Telluride area may be the spot. At that point, we'd only be a couple hours from Moab too, and my lady really wants to see Arches and Moab

"...Telluride area may be the spot..."

Consider a dinner at the Cosmopolitan, good wine list and the fare is reasonably high-end albeit "Telluride priced." On the way out of town (~10-15 miles) hit the Blue Jay for breakfast, good quality/prices.

Best place ever! I look forward to my secret spot up by RedFeather every year. I won't see a single soul for the whole weekend, well except for the people I take with me[Beer]

I've always prefered ghettodub's way of spelling those words and others as well.

Just seems to have more pizzazz that way.

Really? At Eleven Mile? On purpose?

Yuck!

Congrats on the new camper. Details (floorplans, make/model, etc.)?

HA that was my thought as well.

Back on the 18th of this month was the 8th anniversary of our relocation from KS to CO.

First year we lived here we headed out to 11 Mile ... expecting something more along the lines of Dillion Reservoir or Granby.

Boy were we disappointed ... a windy, treeless lake out in the middle of the flatlands ... just like every God forsaken lake in Kansas. [Bang]

It honestly reminded me of Aurora Res on a larger scale of Suck.

right on, i'll check those out for sure. We decided on that last night. A friend of her family has a ranch and 130 acres in Norwood, so we're gonna stay there. They have ATVs, and I can bring the guns!

Unfortunately have to pass on the wine list though, since I"m a recovering drunk and all [Beer]
