Well this just frickin sucks!!!

I just found this thread over on Pimecam.Com:

Pike National Forest: Harris Park Area Closure
The Pike National Forest will close 2,500 acres of National Forest lands in the Harris Park area of Park County to all public use
beginning in August 2010 or later. The closure will be in effect for up to one year, except public access will be allowed during the
main rifle big game hunting seasons, October 23, 2010 through November 21, 2010.
This closure will prohibit all public use in an area north of Harris Park around Forest Roads 107 and 108, as well as the ‘shooting
area’. The U.S. Forest Service will have a contractor working in the area to reduce hazardous fuels near the Harris Park community.
Heavy equipment will be in operation and will pose a threat to public safety.
The closure order will prohibit all public use of the area, including the following activities: operating motorized vehicles, hiking,
shooting, or being in the area for any other reason. This closure will be strictly enforced by U.S. Forest Service law enforcement
officers.
A map of the closure area is attached. For more information, contact the South Platte Ranger District at 303-275-5610.

Better that it is closed for that than something else I guess.

Yep, bulldozers and atv's have accidents all the time. It's been well documented.

We all knew it was inevitable it was not a matter of if but when. Just bums me out when a place I have called my home and my backyard for years I am now no longer allowed near.

As Stuart said guess it is better for that than something else. The Future for this 'shooting area' is what worries me sad the most.

It certainly sounds like it will be reopened (hopefully not as town homes), but now sure would be a great time to conveniently shut down the shooting area forever.

that sucks, at least it isn't permanent or a shooting range closure only

I think this is a local logging company. They just finished out N 67, starting outside of my neighborhood. Mostly doing mitigation along 'urban wild land interface zones', their work is pretty quick (couple of months). The contract spans a decade and encompasses the state. Some timber is pulled out, but mostly it's biomass for power plants. Not to mention bulldozers, tree cutters, haulers, 5 ton tractor trailer logging trucks, and the largest chipper you've ever seen waking you up at 6 a.m. Yes it totally sucks for you folks in that area. But you'll be pleased when its done.

Naw, Devils Tower has become too visible and they needed this cover story to set up for the alien encounter.
