I didn't even realize I wanted one until I shot one, then something inside of me needed it, lol. It took a whopping two and a half weeks from the time I ordered till I had my service grade M1 Garand from the CMP!
So, it's a 5.8M Springfield receiver with SA trigger and barrel. The op rod, bolt and sights are HRA, the metal looks awesome. The muzzle is a 1, and throat erosion is 2. The stock is a bit worked and although the dings are starting to grow on me I'm probably going to refinish it soon.
I can't stop looking at it. I think I'm going to watch Band of Brothers while I clean it :D

I have 23 of them. I sometimes just sit and admire how beautiful a rifle it truly is! Such fine lines!
Enjoy the beginning of your love affair with the best battle rifle ever developed!

Nice rifle! I am jealous.
I have an itch for one!
Now to figure out what to part with for an old warhorse. With my dad being a WWII vet I need to add one to the stable.
One of the guns on my need list. Very nice.

Nice rife I own 2 a correct grade Springfield and a Correct HMR with an LMR barrel. Be careful though they tend to multiply.
Very nice rifle. Now you need to get the sisters. An M14 and a BM59.

Thanks all, I think I'm in love with it. I've decided (with help from Birddog1911's consult) that I'm going to just clean the stock up and not totally refinish it, I think the nicks and dings add to the whole package.
I need to get out and shoot it, bad. I need to do that like a Democrat needs to spend other people's money. As soon as I get my ammo from the CMP I'll be out.
Thanks for the compliments, if any of you want a Garand, jump on it through the CMP. This one's a service grade. Now that they're moving through the Greek returns they seem to be very nice rifles. Their customer service is awesome.
I used to think that old guns were outdated and lame and substandard but now I can see why some folks have lots (23!?) of them, because they're awesome! I'll probably be getting more oldschool rifles soon, I'm addicted!
