These guys live at the end of the street from me...
Guess I am allowed to get mine out now too since we no longer have an HOA!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gadsden_flag

Tea Party symbol

Beginning in 2009, the Gadsden Flag has become an adopted symbol of the American Tea Party movement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea_Party_movement).[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gadsden_flag#cite_note-5)[7] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gadsden_flag#cite_note-6) Tea Party activists have embraced the "Don't Tread on Me" flag and its message.[8] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gadsden_flag#cite_note-7) Nationwide it serves as an alternative to the stars and stripes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stars_and_stripes)[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gadsden_flag#cite_note-foxnews1-8) for Tea Party protesters upset at the current government yet still feeling patriotic. [10] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gadsden_flag#cite_note-9) It was also seen being displayed by members of Congress at Tea Party rallies.[11] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gadsden_flag#cite_note-10) Some lawmakers have dubbed it a political symbol due to the Tea Party connection,[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gadsden_flag#cite_note-foxnews1-8) and the political nature of Tea Party supporters.[12] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gadsden_flag#cite_note-11)

Jolly Rodger flown here.

Flown here as well. I remember when I first got it and started flying it. Back then it was all just for fun but one of my neighbors went to several of my other neighbors asking "What does it mean?" "What's he telling us?"

The next time I saw that neighbor I told him it means that he needs to learn to lighten up - and maybe even watch Peter Pan. He still didn't get it. Oh well.

Now, I fly it as a bit of a protest.

Holy cow... Whatever. Because a current political statement is made with the flag, 200 years of history is wiped out; poof... I don't think so. My neighbor has bee flying the Gadsden along with Ole Glory since before the Tea Party business. I find out they go after him for it, I'll personally show up to the HOA meeting with every damn neighbor I can recruit.

Isn't that what the Nazi symbol did to the much older Buddhist symbol? Even though they are different.

Yes, and many Native American nations also used the symbol for centuries before the Nazi's got ahold of it as well. Personally, I think it's a really cool and amazing little symbol, but the damned Nazi's went and ruined it for everyone.

Most point to Hindu for it's origins, but it was used all over the globe for centuries by many different cultures until the Nazi's turned it into a symbol of distain. More than a few Native American cultures have used the symbol for thousands of years.

Most of the symbology used by Hitler and the Nazi's originated from scandinavian beginnings. They suited Hitler's vision of the perfect arian race as they derived from what he saw as 'pure stock'.

Sorry, but I had to deal with a little bit of white supremacy garbage when I was LE, and it always pissed me off to no end to see symbols from my heritage being used by those idiots.

I'm not sure I would categorize the current use of the Gadsden in the same league as what the Nazi's did. I see it more of an extension of historical beliefs being represented in a modern day. What the Nazi's did was pure perversion.

Of course it was, but the comparison was to check the validity of some organization wiping the slate on thousands of years of history.

I don't want to have to be associated with a party, in order to express my appreciation of freedom. Even if it is a "party" that I currently am in support of.

welcome to the other side of the first Amendment

I don't like that one of the most significant religious symbols of my peoples history is now associated with Hatred, ignorance and racial/religious intolerance.

Just as I am sure that Many people feel that the confederate battle flag was a symbol of State Sovereignty and not racial Bias or slavery.

I look at it this way, you don't have to be a member of the tea party to want to express the same message to D.C. that they are.

Don't get me wrong, I totally see why HOA's would be important. But in my experience I end up dealing with HOA staff who have nothing better to do than complain about the petty stuff with people's houses. Or they wait until someone is completely done with a project before telling them they did it outside of HOA guidelines.

I know there are good ones and bad ones. Currently I live in a neighborhood that does not have one and Aurora Code Enforcement does a really good job of making sure people aren't parking cars on their lawns and what not. The neighborhood I lived in when I was teen in Thornton also did not have a HOA but Thornton Code Enforcement (who I referred to as Nazi's at the time) did a good job of making sure people weren't messy and their grass was not to long and so on.

Plus I have seen a lot of HOA fraud thus far (Not saying that they are all like that) just saying that I have seen quite a bit.

+1 One of our rental unit's HOA has been paying one of its board member excessive amount of money for snow clean up on a 32 unit building. Last year they spent thousands to paint less than 100 linear foot of fencing. [Rant1]

You have a Shelby, a lift and shoot? I'm currently available as a friend if you're taking applications...

Very sexy car though, every time my wife and I drive to Vegas we stop at Shelby. Someday, someday, probably a Factory 5 though. What's yours all about?

It's a factory 5, built with all new parts (non donor build) it's got a 351W, a tremec 5 speed, IRS, 3.55 gears. It's carbed and we just moved out from sea level (Mass) so she's not tuned for the thin air yet.

We moved in 8/1 and after unpacking boxes, the garage was the first project. I hung all the drywall, ran the lights & electrical, there's air drops throughout the garage, The lift and floor (from floor junkies in TX) were the last things done. Now if the HOA would just let me put a small shed somewhere in the yard I could get the lawnmower, snowblower and other yard shit out of my side of the garage. (the wife's garage is just drywall and paint. Our deal was that she gets the small garage for herself and I'm not allowed to do anything else to it)

It's a little bit of a drive from CO springs, but if you need use of a lift, bring beer and make yourself at home. . . .

I'm a sucky shot though, so I dont know if you still want to be friends

I need a scope to hit the 100 yard targets
I love Shelbys.(one of two Ford got right)
I have successfully built a storage shed
I Drink Beer
I live right down the road
you'd have to tolerate a Chevy parked out front
