View Full Version : Anyone know about German Lugers
Was just thinking about a Luger my Grandpa has that has German markings IE Swastika, I think the eagle. I want to say the serial number starts with 3933.
I will try to get more info tomorrow. But does anyone here know what this could be worth? No Not for sale wont be either. Just want to find info about it.
Landon
All matching numbers (33) stamped on it all and on the two mags.
BFR also stamped on top.
Has the german eagle and Swatsizka on it.
On one side to looks to have pitting. But its not like rust pitting he was told it was blood etching? The other side is in great shape.

It could be worth from $450.00 to $15,000, perhaps more, perhaps less, depending upon condition, manufacture, model, accessories and provenance.
A detailed description along with photos can get you in the ball park of a realistic value.
You can pm me here or post over on lugerforum.com when you have more information.
do you have detailed pic of the top of the gun? is the 33 the only markings on the mags? is there any markings under the eagle?

Quite possibly blood did this to the gun. I've seen and owned a few that were blood pitted. Blood is very corrosive. I had a 1911 that had been recovered from a suicide that went undiscovered for many months and there were pits deep enough in the slide to expose the barrel. Unfortunately, as macabre as the damage may be, it doesn't add value -- it's a severe detractor (by at least 50%).
Made by Mauser 1940-42. It should have a date on the top of the chamber. It should have aluminum bottom mags, probably fxo maker marked. On the right side of the cannon (upper receiver), it should have (2), possibly (3) waA63 marks. If the mags are original to the gun they will have the complete 4 digit ser# as found on the front of the receiver and may include a suffix initial a-z (or may not if assembled the first part of the year). One mag will also be marked "+".
The toggle train will most likely have "42" or "S/42" or could conceivably have a Mauser Banner (civilian sales). Since the heavy pitting on the first photo obliterates the area where the WaA63 "waffen ampts" or military acceptance proofs are, it's hard to be certain it's not a civilian sale (note: mauser banners of this period were also acquired by the secret police during this period and fitted with sear safeties and eagle/L marked).
Based on just the condition as evidenced in the photos and assuming the gun all matching # its worth about $650 due to the extensive damage it suffered during poor storage. Now the adds:
Add $500.00 for one matching magazine
Add $750.00 for the 2nd matching mag
Add $500.00 for Mauser Banner
and on the very slim chance that there is an anchor on the toggle train, I can refer you to someone much more knowledgeable on that breed than I -- I only specialize in Erferts, civilian DWMs and Mausers.
So, even in it's poor condition, it could conceivably be worth about $2400, plus or minus 15%.
Restoring the gun will destroy all collector value. Attempting the "clean" the rust can also be a big detractor if you don't know exactly how to do it (if I were king of C&R I would make it illegal to have steel wool and guns in the same room).
Bump this from the dead. My gradpa gifted me this luger recently. Seeing if I can get anymore information. It is NOT for sale. Also it doesn?t look like it has original mags so I was wrong in that.
