I went out to the grasslands this afternoon. It looked like a fuckin college party happened out there!!! No wonder they are closeing it down to shooting, GOSH DOG people are fricken idiots!!!!!! There are broken down shot up chairs, stolen shot up real estate signs, enough broken glass to fill 10 dumpsters, shotgun shells, 22 brass, books, papers, you name it! [Rant1]

If I had a pickup I would have cleaned some up, but I was in my hyundai and it was already full of my 5 target stands, 6 8" steel plates, 5 3" steel plate rack and guns etc.

Other then that I did go to my usual spot and clean up what was there. Shot my targets, collected all my brass, left no visual trace I was there. It was windy as hell out there, I couldnt even use my target stands. Try hitting 3" swinging plates in the wind with a Glock 22 and hot HP's (burned them up for the brass).

Northsite closed, Lefthand Canyon closed, and now possible Pawnee...
We are really running out of places to shoot near north of Denver.

The worst part is the fact that the people who cause these areas to be closed could care less !! They'll just move on to another spot and trash it. [Bang]

They have closed certain parts of the Grasslands...not the whole thing.

Want to make sure they don't close it down? Let's organize a cleanup day. What dates are you guys available? We'll hit up one of the main shooting areas and fill up a couple of pickups.

ETA:
I started another thread for a cleanup day. It's here: http://co-ar15.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27641

Luckily they havent closed the whole thing yet, though they would like to. And if you look at where they are doing their site markers it wont be long until everything north of 14 will be closed. I just hope they build the range south of 14. I think north of 14 will be closed in a year or two no matter what, the bird watchers want it and since they havent been shooting the signs and tearing stuff up they will get it. They are preferred anyways.

I wonder who is the person/people who makes the call to shut these spots down. If we could talk to them and ask them what it would take to keep them opened, maybe organize a way for us to keep spots we use clean and keep the forest service happy at the same time, I think it could go a long way.

Anyone have any ideas?

We have done it in the past along with ARFCOM members. We should do it again, dumpster for a day isn't that much - and it's a good reason for me to meet, shoot, and clean up!

yes, we have done it with arfcom. we dont need to rent a dumpster. i have been in contact with the NPS before, and they will provide one if we are coming. also I have other contacts who will bring people or at least put the word out with thier members as well.

I am down if its sun-wed. I cant steal a day off for a couple months do to hunting seasons. Plus I have an 8yr old that loves walking around picking up trash, to bad he likes bringing it home.

I get so tired of hearing of this crap, why can't people show a little responsibility and take care of these sites? Anyone who really enjoys shooting and the freedoms we have here in Colorado would realize that crap like that will simply lead to closing down these sites. Arghhh!
