I guess it's a grip strength thing. She can shoot it just fine, she just can't do the loading/unloading/malfunction clearing part on her own. Is there a better technique for those with weaker grip strength? Suggestions?

Is she trying to slide it full handed or just with a couple of fingers? Mine had problems with my G21 but I got her doing a full hand slide on it and it's much better for her.

My wife is petite and was having a hard time racking her carry. So we did some one handed drills like using the bottom of your shoe to rack the gun and blah, blah blah. She also found that for her, it was easier to rack the weapon by gripping the front serrations on the slide instead of the back serrations..... Alos told her to hold the slide and just push forward with her strong hand on the frame, and that worked too... Get creative, I'm sure you can come up with something!!

But after thousands of racks, etc... the spring is nice and loose and she can rack it without any problem now.... so loosen that spring for her while you sit in front of the TV!

Now there's an image for the kids, dad staring at mom while he constantly racks his gun.... [Coffee]

Hmmm... didn't quite think that one through eh? I don't have kids though so it was fine for me...

Kids yet. I'd love to have kids... think there's something wrong with my fishies though....

She was trying to use a couple of fingers on the back of the slide. I'll have her try the full hand thing.

Ok, I'll have her try that too.

Thanks for the info guys.

Or have her pull back with one hand while pushing forward with the other. Work both hands together.

Maybe I'm having a hard time imagining what you are talking about but that sounds like not a great idea. You mean one handed like Tom Cruise in "Valkyrie?" but on the back of the shoe? Seems the gun could slip off and slam against the ground...doesn't seem like safe muzzle control in general. Or did I completely misunderstand?

You can use your holster or belt on the rear sight for quicker one handed reload drills (this is why I don't use Novak style rears on my carry guns). Bottom of the shoe... Probably not the way I'd go.
Giver one of these:

This might play to your advantage too [Muaha]

Not sure about the Valkyrie mention... I'll have to re-watch the movie I guess.

She was sitting in a chair with a leg across the other (ankle on knee). We were looking at different ways of racking and we put the rear sight on the heel of her shoe, she pushed forward and the gun racked. Muzzle was still away and in front of us. Won't slam against ground unless she was sitting crosslegged on the ground or bending over or something. Gun was unloaded, etc and etc. It was just something to try to help her get used to racking the gun. No harm, no foul in my opinion.

The whole point was that her left hand was having a hard time holding the slide and maintaning grip to be able to rack it. So we were trying different things. Now, the spring is loosened where she has no problem with it.

HAHA Graves, she probably does need one of those.

there are a lot of ways to improve grip strength, go to some climbing wall and ask those guys they have amazing grip strength

+1 on this. Most ladies don't have the grip strength that the guys do. I guess we spend more time developing our hand and wrist strength[Muaha]
By using a two hand approach she should be able to overcome any weakness. Using a push-push method pits two major muscle groups against each other and only requires 1/2 the strength.
Kinda hard to explain but imagine she is holding a tow rope for water skiing with the thumb part of the hands facing each other. Pistol in the strong hand with the weak hand on the slide. By pushing each hand toward the other she should be able to rack the slide and due to the mechanics grip strength really is not relevant. I have seen older folks with arthritis be able to use this technique with success.

My wife grips the slide at the back with her hand pointing in the direction of the rear sight. Then instead of either hand trying to pull when the other pushes, both hands push. That works really well for her.

Which way is her thumb of her support hand facin?. She should be grabbing the slide with her thumb pointing back towards her and her hand over the top of the slide. This allows her to use her biceps when running the slide compared to "pinching" the slide with her thumb and forefinger from behind, using only her triceps.

Should look like this:

Try having her keep both arms straight out and with a death pinch with her left hand On the rear of the slide and then have her twist/rotate her shoulders keeping her right hand straight. Her body should do all the work Instead of trying to use her arms.
Easier to demo then verbally explain.

my wife couldnt do it either. I told her to hold the gun closer to her chest that way she has more leverage with it. worked just fine...
