Wanting to toss a scope on a FAL. Im no match shooter, I like using cheap ammo, not precise reloads.
Any thoughts on a scope recommendation, or what questions I should be asking myself?

Something that has a good warranty. I have dispatched a couple of scopes on my Fals. Currently have a Redfield 2X7 and it is doing fine so far.
Which recticle are you using for the Redfields? I was looking at a pair of them for the toy box but wondered if the accu-range recticle was too busy.

JerryMC gives good advise on FAL subjects. The man has forgotten more on FAL's than most of us will ever know.
The FAL has a pretty strong recoil impulse and it will kill a cheap reticle.
What is just as important is the mount/dust cover. Spend the money for the DSA cover/rail. It will stay in place once installed correctly.
Take a look at Nikon. Lifetime warranty IIRC and they won't break the bank.

I really like the 4x IOR tacticals. I had one on my DSA FAL awhile back. I took it off because I like shooting with irons. I just bought a Nikon Monarch UCC 4-16x42 with mil dot reticle for a #1, and think it's a fantastic scope for the money. It's as clear as any scope I've owned, and has a lifetime warranty.

I have the accu-range. It does take a little getting used to.

I have a love affair with those boat anchors.
You just have to be very careful WHO you get them from - a lot of surplused scopes make it into the states with NO tritium and totally sandblasted.
Fortunately theyve worked with me on fixing them.
But the IOR 4x scope works good for me when I dont' moutn the Elcan.
Get/use the DSA scope mount system, it's just a guess but the scope I rattled apart on a lesser mount MIGHT not have taken such a beating if the mount hadn't been "free floating". The DSA mount uses screws to positively join the mount to the receiver.
i've never tried to use a precision scope on the FAL, it's just not capable of doing less than 2 moa under general circumstances and I also like the verticle post reticle on a 308 battle rifle.
IOR seems pricey considering where they are made, but they just dont break!

Has anybody ever done a new run/version of the suit scopes? I got one years ago and it is a great military scope. Close enough and easy to acquire with that big arrow pointing down.

I have not seen anything. Even though the Fal is still in service in a few places the country's that have them never adopted the suit.

Just helped a friend install a scope on his FAL he went with a millet 1-4x lighted reticle, I cannot atest to the durability of this setup but it seams well built. I think a 1-4x scope is the way to go on this rifle.
get SA58 FAL Extreme Duty Scope Mount!
get SA58 FAL Extreme Duty Scope Mount!

IMO the best mount ever made for a Fal was the WAC QD-pro. The ARMS mounts can come loose and the DSA is the design that has been made by many over the years. Back when Tapco had there copy of the DSA they were about $30 each.
Of course WAC and Dwight are no longer around because of the alumabomb issue but for a little more than the current DSA the QD-pro can be found used. I have the Tapco DSA copy (leapers) and it works just fine but I think a pic is worth a 1000 words.
The QD-pro. almost 1/2 the weight of the DSA and holds its zero. Did I mention that it looks great as well?
