I'm just curious to see what other people think about this.

Someone tells you they'll sell you something. You agree on a place but the time has yet to be determined. Then they go and sell it to someone else because it was more convenient or they could get a bit more money. Is that a dick move?

I think it is and it frustrates me to no end. I feel old now saying it but remember when someone's word was worth something?

If they tell you it's yours and then back out I have to agree with dick move. I sold an AK not too long ago for $100 less than what I was asking. A guy offered my full price after I already agreed to sell to the other gentleman for the said $100 less. I could have easily backed out of the deal for the extra 100 cash. But then I would have felt like less of a man after giving my word to the other guy. Not too many morals or genuine people left today. Sad really but that's just the way it is.

a deal's a deal. i've sold some things for the agreed upon price then received a better offer. However once the deal's been sealed it's shitty of you to back out. UNLESS the deal is out of state and you posted prefer a local sale. then it's your call.
i also had a deal where the price was a steal for me and the seller told me another caller offered him 2x the amount. he told her only if the first buyer (me) backed out. i asked him why he said you were the first to say "i'd take it, cash in hand"

Dick move. I've had plenty of folks try to up me by claiming someone else had put a much better offer on something I agreed to buy, I tell them to piss off and I'll find it elsewhere if they are going to play those games - many of them finally tell me "ok, I'll sell it to you", so it was complete BS. If you say you are going to do something then do it, if you say you'll be somewhere at a certain time then be there. There are people of honor and people without, those without aren't worth my time.

Quite a few people have little to no integrity unfortunately. You do the deal once it's agreed upon.

Thanks for the responses. I thought it seemed lame but wasn't sure if I was overreacting. It pissed me off something fierce.

No, it wasn't anyone here. It was from another local site. I had 2 deals set up to purchase ammo this weekend and both dudes pulled dick moves. I agreed on a price and a place (the same place) with both of them. The place was north (I-25 and 119) so I was trying to coordinate a time so I could just make 1 trip. I communicated this with the 7.62 dude and he said "Not a problem Steve. Everyone's schedule sucks." Cool, right? The .45 dude agrees on a price and says when and where. I tell him my schedule. He keeps trying to get me to meet at 1pm on Friday (today). I told him I worked until 2:30 and already had plans after work so could we shoot for the weekend. He never replied so I called him. He says he has someone else lined up but now I'm 2nd on the list. Unbelievable! I say ok then and write the 7.62 guy back saying this other dude is jerking me around so when is the ideal time for you to meet? I then get a reply that says "Hi Steve. Ammo sold today. Sorry."

I handled this like any other transaction I've done and communicated thoroughly IMO. I just don't get it. Anyone got any 7.62 or .45ACP they want to sell? [Tooth]

Thanks for letting me vent. I know it was long and more than likely boring.

They both welched on a deal. You had an agreed upon price and meeting place, just needed to solidify the date/time to close the deal. They should have been patient and worked through it with you.

BTW, 45ACP is usually available when I go to a Walmart nowadays.

Yeah, I've been grabbing boxes here and there. This dude had 700 rounds of Winchester white box that he wanted to sell for $250. I offered lower and he counter-offered and we agreed on $230. Comes out to ~.33/round. Bah . . .

According to your accounts of the facts...yup, dick move on both counts. I say leave bad feedback for them on those sites and please, let us know what local sites those are so we don't get burnt later.

It was cologunmarket.com. The user names were CStoneman and Trzeci98. I've had some good luck with the market but for whatever reason this ended up in a double whammy.

I actually just picked up a great deal on 500 Winchester 12 ga shells today. Came out to $6.50/box. I stopped by Sportsmans and the same exact stuff was $8.00/box. Hit and miss I guess.

unless they say they will hold it, it's a dick move IMO.

I've had people flake out like that on Craigslist buys- I just expect it.

I am very specific about terms when I am doing FTF trades/sales though.

I have no problem admitting when i'm wrong, i might have done this this weekend.

However comma,

The guy e-mailed me and said will you take X amount for this?(less than what i was asking)
I emailed him back and said I would, no place and time to meet was arranged, although I did propose a time and place.

Guy B e-mailed and said would you take Y Amount (which is what i was asking)

I called Guy B and said yes when can we meet? and we arranged a time and place.

Meanwhile Guy A e-mailed back Hours later about 8 hours later and suggested the time change.

I said I was sorry but guy B beat you to the punch.

Was it wrong? probably

Did it get me some bad feed back? Yes

But,

What if guy A never called back?

How long do i wait?

And to Guy A if your Reading this I'm truly sorry, and i didn't mean to get your hopes up. let me know if i can make it up to you.

Lemme elaborate a bit on my earlier post-

Only if the seller told me that he would hold it for me then I would be peeved if he sold it.

leaving the deal open without details leaves the seller free to sell it someone else who is committed to the sale.

Let's say a seller says you can have it at a certain price but you're still communicating back and forth about the details. At mid-communication they go and sell it to someone else. Dick move. In my case if either of these dudes said if you want it you have to come get it by this time on this day I would've either said yes I can do that or sorry no I can't do that. It's common courtesy at that point.

I agree - but it all is in the details.

The key words are "Will you hold it for me?" or "First come, first served".

Too many variables.

I always nail down these details before I make a verbal agreement.

Someone had an item up for sale on this site for at least two weeks, I emailed questions, they replied, I emailed to coordinate the FTF and ooops, suddenly they aren't selling the item anymore. WTF???

I take it as a cheap lesson, will never deal with that person again. Sucks that online you don't "know" the person and can't avoid them if they change their user name.

For what it's worth I picked up some Winchester .45 ACP 230 FMJ from SGAmmo.com last week, $187/500:

At least here as a rule we have a higher regard for the ethics of the deal. We're a small community and I can't say that any of you I've met your dealt with are folk I wouldn't do it again without worry. Hell many of you I'd hook up and trust just because you're active members here. That trust and sense of community is really the best part of CO-AR15 ..

Hell one member here, not overly active, but he was in Iraq and coming back in a few months at the time of the deal. I was far more worried about making sure he was protected and the deal was detailed out for his sake than mine. I had his money and his rifle for about a month and a half before he got back. It was great to know that even though I've not met the guy that he trusted me enough to work a deal like this. That type of trust and sense of community is endemic of our site.

Sadly, what I have learned in these internet private sales is that you have to be specific and you have to cover your bases. What might be kinda cool would be to create some sort of common verbiage for these kinda deal. Some sort of template that covers all the bases.

It was cologunmarket.com.

I think this is your biggest problem. Not saying that colorado gun market is a bad place, but when you're doing deals on a forum like CO-AR15 you kinda build up a reputation. You see people on here often, and if you do somebody wrong and they out you it's kinda tough to come back on here and chat with folks. It would be like screwing over a guy at the local dive bar that you're both regulars at. Once you cross that line you can't really stick around anymore because everybody knows you're a dick. You do it on a big sales only board and it doesn't matter as much. It's a little more cut throat over there.

I'm Sorry, but I think the seller should always have the right to Cancel/retract the item(s) from Sale.
and this would be wholly different from selling it to someone else.

But yeah, it would be a dick move to outright "oh he offered me more so I sold it to him instead"
