So i was about to get off work when im siiting in the office and a call comes in for a rattle snake in a house, All the techs are already off so i say ill go get it. All the snake equipment is in another techs truck so i have to do my best not to get bit.
Well i get to the house and its the smallest snake ive ever seen. shaking its tail like a rattler even the marking are similar. hes coiled up and striking at me everytime i get close. turns out to be a gopher snake, after i pick it up it calms down and hes the cuteist little thing hahah

Good job! I love snakes they keep the other critters like mice away.
it was awsome, my 3year old wasnt scared when we released it and she was so happy to see him slither into the brush inback of my house, its just a lil critter but it feels good not to have to humanly uthinize them or how ever you spell it hahaha
I had always heard of kids catching Bull snakes when growing up, but I've only ever seen, I think, 3 different kinds of wild snakes here. Garder snakes, rattlers, and whatever that other one was. I once caught a snake that was about 4 feet long. I just assumed it was a bull snake, but I think it could have been a Gopher snake. I came across a similarly sized snake once a few years ago when I was running, but he was way too pissed for me to pick him up and I don't know what he was. I'm curious and am going to look up how many local snakes there are now. I LOVE snakes, but never see anything but Garder snakes.
my yard is full of garder snakes, i find a new skin every few days, when i cut my lawn they go every were
What's that snake with the colored bands that resembles coral snakes? And do we have those in CO? I swear on a stack of bibles that I saw one in my backyard in Parker once. Just got a glimpse as it boogied under a planter when I was mowing. DEFINITELY had brightly colored bands around it.

The person that called in the snake in their house....was the caller a woman in her early 20s?
I dated a girl once upon a time ago that fit that description and was deathly afraid of bugs spider and snakes. Hahahahaha
We had a job on the AFA a while back, got to the site and I jumped out of the truck......landed about 2' from a rattler.
We coaxed him out of the way but man that was a little too close for comfort....

Glock21, what's the best way to keep these snakies out of a house? I just spent some time yesterday trying to capture a Garder snake in my mom's house. They get under the shallow foundation walls and have made a pretty nice home for themselves in a crawlspace under the kitchen. :) Mom's a bit freaked out. I wasn't able to capture sneaky snake, he was pretty evasive with all his tunnels etc.
We've heard mothballs work pretty well and they did keep them out of some areas this summer. (before we knew they were actually living in the crawlspace)
Just tell your mom to suck it up and quit being afraid of most inane snake on the planet. Then tell her that it probably eats a bunch of yucky spiders and other gross bugs. ;)

Pretty much what I told her. But I made an effort to capture the dang thing with no luck. He's still slithering around somewhere. Crawlspace was very bug/spider free though. :)

...Since then, I've ran over two horizontal on the road (while on a motorcycle) accidentally, my father ran over one on his way up here, I've missed two more, and seen two more walking around, all in 3-4 months. All gopher snakes.
Now THAT had to be something to see.[ROFL1]
(what? The rest of you getting too slow to catch that one? It was ripe for the pickin' and I had to take the shot.)
I laughed when I read it.

Snakes in crawl spaces are not uncommon at all. If you have mice eventually you will have snakes, then the mice will migrate in the house and soon the snakes will follow. Reminds me of democrats? I am in probably 20 crawl spaces a week and see garder snakes, bull snakes, and even a rattle snake or 2. I have only killed one in a crawl space, if they leave me alone I let them live, but if they come in my house I have no mercey! But if they are outside my AO I let them do their job.

Yes, I was too slow to catch this one. 2.5 ft tall crawlspace, not much light, and the snake had lots of deep cracks and holes he could get in. I tried, but not really hard. Just dug up all his paths with a shovel and called it good.
my daughter and i were on the hunt for a 3ft long garder yesterday, she was right there with me with bucket in hand, i need to catch one to teach some new guys at work how to handle them if they get a call for a snake
