As the title suggests, do you increase your alert status on 9-11?
I am and my wife and I will have a few hundred extra 5.56 rounds with us at all times tomorrow along with a couple hundred for our pistols on top of 10 loaded mags for each of our ARs.

Do any of you think I am paranoid or do you go on a better alert status and are extra preparewd on the anniversary?

I can't imagine what kind of terrorist attack would occur where a ton of ammo would help you out. Not with these kinds of terrorists anyway. None of that would have made a difference 9 years ago for example.

I'm not saying you're incorrect for being on high alert, just question the need for so much ammo. Don't get pulled over and become a suspect or anything.

I am loaded mainly for the aftermath of civil unrest if a terrorist attack does happen.
ALso I plan on staying home with the kids and wife.

I am always a little bit prepared for bad things. I've got MAYBE 500 rounds total for all my guns, bout two weeks worth of food if I eat once a day, couple cases of water etc......

But I see no reason to be extra prepared on 9/11, it is a day to honor our fallen heroes and innocents, remember THEY want you to live in fear. God bless the good people who lost their lives on that horrible day.

Oh and BTW just because I don't dosent mean your crazy, hell I'm probably crazy for not stocking up on ammo, I gotta get a reloader........

Nothing says you hate terrorism like shooting the victims during the aftermath. :p

Systemically, Al-Quada has shown that anniversaries and significant dates mean nothing to them in correlation to attacks. This is fairly true of all of the Sunni based terrorist organizations that have cropped up around the world as al-quada franchised and broke apart into little separate pieces. The same cannot be said for Shia based terrorist organizations, but they only show a date propensity for incidents where they are clashing with the Sunnis.

Domestic terrorism and many of the older and now defunct European terrorist organizations/groups, on the other hand, have shown a clear and concise opposite feeling toward date centric actions. The biggest example of this was the Oklahoma City bombing on 19 April, the anniversary of the Branch Dividian Compound raid. There are a butt load of other significant occurances in the week around 19 April too. I always got edgy that week when I was a Fed, and still do.

The Shiites like their dates, but it's not likely to be much of a factor unless you happen to be in Najaf, Karbala, Samarra, etc. during their various pilgrimages, but even then the bad guys are likely to be Sunni. They just can't resist large groups of people with a (trend of a) persecution complex. :)

i am allways on a higher alert level. its called PTSD.

but, if it would make you happy, i could go color some moose limbs on a cardboard target and shoot it today. kind of remember the day, and show we dont forget.

Although, I used to tell everyone that I couldnt believe this kind of thing had not happened. And when it finally did I couldnt believe it was a nearly one time thing. As long as we live in a free and open society, we will have challenges to face. Weather they are moose limbs or other. I personally wouldnt allow the moose limbs to immigrate here, and would block thier propaganda based on hate speech. But, I dont make the rules. And that is probably a good thing. for everyone else...

To the OP:
No more than I usually am. As it was said above, anniversaries don't matter. They could have blown up Denver yesterday, today, tomorrow, next week...
I will not live in fear. I will not spend today holed up in my house just waiting. I will live my life to the fullest and carry on with my daily business.

For the past several years I've had a constant heightened level of awareness. But that's because I have a better chance getting mugged on the light rail than getting blown up by a terrorist. You can't really prepare for a suicide bomber but you can prepare for an attempted mugging.

Stole my thoughts-before 9/11 we didn't think it could happen here, now we know better. As usual with the passage of time complacency takes over. Alertness/awareness is what we need to implement everyday but we also need to live our lives as OgenRwot said. [Beer]

This. People are really really bad at judging what's a threat. Things that are very common (car accidents & heart attacks) are so common they're seen as ordinary and thus not as much of a threat as something that's widely seen on the news, like a school shooting or terrorist incident. You are more likely to be killed by a police officer than a terrorist. Statistically. You're two orders of magnitude more likely to be killed or injured in a car accident. Buckle up every time you drive. Like people who are afraid of flying, you should be afraid of your drive the the airport and back. It's much more dangerous.

Second point Ogen correctly makes is the terrorists aren't really capable of doing that much damage to us. Our over-reaction to the events of 9/11 caused far, far more damage than four hijacked airliners. Their goal is to use our fear and stupidity as a "force multiplier" -- to get us to give us our liberties ("PATRIOT Act"), to give up on our rights ("Freedom of/from religion", "Taking pictures from public property", etc)

Have you read Risk by Dan Gardner? I just started it and in the first chapter it talks about how for a year after 9/11 people drove a lot more because they were afraid to fly, and as a result there were 1500 extra (above the norm) deaths from car accidents in that year.

My WI-FI connection is a little slow right now because Im 9 feet underground......you know, just in case!!!!

With Obama and his crack team on watch right now I have no real concerns. Im care free. Wife complains that the DRACO AK left an oil stain on the couch and it should not be at the table during breakfast but it is a small price to pay for freedom, am I right.

I'm not saying you should not be prepared.....but if your running scared, they have accomplished their mission all ready. That's what terrorist try and do. They try to ruin your life style with fear.

Was talking to some highschoolers yesterday.... they dind't know/comprehend what 9/11 was... What are our teachers teaching? (Don't answer that, I already know.)

As far as being overly prepared for something to happen on 9/11... No, I wasn't. I went about my life as I do everyday. I will never forget, but I won't live in fear either.

God Bless.

So who is winning the war on terror?

Well, terror (or fear) is the emotional response to a perceived threat. So it's not really possible to win a war on terror, unless we're prescribing Xanax or some other mind bending drugs to everyone.

Framing it as a "Global War On Terror" is just as stupid as declaring a "War on Drugs." It's not possible to win a war against terror when it's something that any individual can commit with no forewarning.

You can win a war against the Taliban, or against Al Queda, or any of the other dozens muslim extremist groups, but not against an emotional state.
