i dropped off an elk hide to be made into leather, and a coyote hide on january 7th. i was on my way to kansas to hunt pheasant and coyote, while i was in kansas i shot a fox and a coyote, i took those hides to my taxidermist. i got the hides back from my taxidermist in april or so. the hides from rocky mountain tanners are not back yet! i called them in july, was told they would be another couple weeks. called in august, was told the same thing, called in early september and said either give me my hides or give me my money back, they said it would be another couple weeks. i have already killed another elk and havent gotten the hide back from last year. it has been over 9 months and i have nothing to show for my $222. what an unprofessional business, at this point i doubt i will ever see my hides, or my money.

Maybe they are running a ponzi scheme with elk hides!

spencerhenry

what i think is going on is basically a ponzi scheme. he probably spent the money that he took in deposit (50% minimum), and now cant pay the tannery for the finished product.
a friend was on the front range and was going to pick up his hides, mine, and another persons. rocky mountain tanners wouldnt answer the phone. the told the other person that the hides would be back this week, think we have gotten calls to tell us they are done, hell no.
the guy that owns the business is a moron. my brother started the business back in the 90's and sold it to this idiot in '99. very unprofessional on all levels. will NEVER give them a dime again, just hope to get my $222 back.

If we were to ask Uncle Obama, I'm sure he would tell us that this is Bush's fault somehow.

You mean it's not?!?! I thought everything bad was his fault.

I've had similar experiences with businesses and it really pisses me off when they do this to people. Call the BBB and report them. Tom Martino is a joke - as long as you pay the fee, you can be on his list of "preferred" businesses.

For those in the Springs, I have always taken my stuff to Timberline Taxidermy on Victor Place/Frequent Flyer Point (This is the road you use to get to teh Harley stroe on Powers between Constitution & Palmer Park.

For hides, they prep them and ship them off out of state to be processed.

For mounts, they charge a bit more than others but I've always liked their work - much better than the work I've seen done by other places with my friends animals.

Now, I have another guy who does mounts but who is fairly new (just a few years) and is a Marine Reservist who lives near my off of Austin Bluffs (near Barnes). I have seen some of his work at Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation events and everything looks really good. His prices seem lower than most but he can't handle a lot of stuff like the bigger places can. When I get something else that I think should be mounted I think I'll try him. (PM if you want his info)

I had my deer hide done by them last year and they seemed professional to me. Seemed like good guys at the time. Maybe they've changed, but my one dealing with them was positive.

it has been another month or so and still no hide. rocky mountain tanners is a worthless crook.

called again today, it has now been 9.5 months since i dropped the hides off, and almost 6 months since they were supposed to be done. i asked for my money back. he said "you can want that, but you arent going to get it". he said maybe they would refund my money when it had been over a year!
the guy is a moron, and a thief. i gave them $222 in cash to tan my hides and he has the gall to tell me that he will NOT refund my money until it has been at least a year.
the neighbor lady called a couple of weeks ago, they said they had her deer hide back, she gave them a credit card number to pay the balance she owed so they would send the hide to her. surprise surprise, two weeks later and still no hide.
i highly recommend that NO ONE give these idiots any money at all, you may as well burn your money.

Do you have any paperwork from them for the deposit? Hopefully with a rough delivery date?

As a start, Id send them a letter, CC it to yourself. Inform them they have failed to deliver within reasonable time, and within their provided delivery time. Inform them they must return goods and deposit, as nothing has progressed. And inform that return must be made with 30 days, or you will prosecute in small claims court. Then be ready to take them to court. Especially with the time of year, they will probably throw your stuff and money back at you, since court stuff will cost them more in lost time.

Just a thought on how to deal with this. Sounds like they are either waiting on money, lost/screwed something up, or really dont like you for some reason!
