Has anyone looked close at the Ronald McDonald House donation stickers on the drive through windows? If you read the small print in white (thats on a yellow background and impossible to read) it says that for every happy meal they sell they will donate 1 cent. They charge almost $4 for a happy meal which is only a dollar fry and dollar nugget and they ONLY DONATE 1 cent!!! Holy Crap. [Rant1] [Mad] [Bang]

Multiply that by how many happy meals sold yearly, and I bet you have a couple million dollars donated!

How much do you donate to the foundation?

One PERcent would still only be 4 cents for a $4 meal.

I donate directly to the Ronald McDonald House in Colo Springs and while I haven't done it for a few years used to donate a day of my time each year to do much needed maintenance and clean up work around the house. My single contribution of time doesn't sound like much, but I'd usually have a team of 10 or so with me.

For those who may not know, the Ronald McDonald House's perform an essential charitable need to children and the families of children with critical/terminal illnesses. This is definitely a cause you can get behind.

Also, if you didn't know, by saving soda can pop tabs, and turning them into a RMH you can help them tremendously.

Even most organizations with an active recycling program in place usually never balk at having collection boxes set up to take the tabs. something to consider doing at your place of business.

Nope, not even. I've seen it too and it's definitely one cent as in a single penny for each happy meal. My wife and I had a good chuckle about that a couple months ago. Trying to play devil's advocate I commented on how many happy meals that company sells nationwide and I'm sure it will still be a pretty healthy donation. Still, at least make it a nickel so it doesn't look so lame.

I'm betting they sell at least 1,000,000 happy meals per day.

That's a $10,000.00 donation per day (assuming that minimum 1m number is valid).

That's a 3.65 million dollar donation every year. I'm betting it's more than that.

A penny may not sound like a lot...but when you start talking hundreds of millions of pennies it ads up.

I can't fault McD's for that, regardless of how "lame" it sounds.

I always find it funny when people get mad at companies for making "small" donations. Most companies don't even make donations and yeah, as someone else said, how much did you donate today? Businesses are out to make money, not give it away. So every cent they give away is a very nice gesture IMHO.

I always drop some change in the deal at the drive thru window when I go. It is a great organization to help families of sick children. My brother stayed there when his son had a brain tumor. RMH, WW project etc are all great causes and deserve more $.

It's not the gesture that is getting me here but the way that someone at McDonald's marketing KNEW people would find the amount trivial so they purposely hid the amount in ALL of their marketing materials. If they're so proud of it then why not make it obvious? Kudos to McDonald's for donating money. Thumbs down for donating the smallest amount possible strictly to be able to run add campaigns to try to make your company look better. The money they've spent in marketing & materials on the promotion far outweighs anything actually going to the charity.

So, you do realize they call it the Ronald McDonald house for a reason, right?
so they build FREE Housing for families with sick children... Donate money to keep it running and people are bashing them.

you never know what you have until its gone.
There was no support like this for my family when Alex was sick.
I hope none of you ever need this level of support.
