View Full Version : Last Day
Today is my last day of work. I am retiring because of stess and heart issues. It is going to feel funny not having a place to go every weekday morning. I'm glad that I could save enough money over years to retire at 59 1/2.
A question for the other retirees, what do you do to keep busy?
congrats. Maybe we'll see you here in the mornings.

I go crazy.
But, I have 5 kids, horses, goats, cows, house, and 80 acres to keep me somewhat busy. Do you live close to town or in town? If you do at least there will be some variety of thing for you to do. Sometimes, I dont leave the house for 4 or 5 weeks at a time. It makes me crazy.

I'm kinda retired but not by choice. I'm 64 and keep busy with around the house projects, spend too much time online, work out at least 3 days a week, volunteer at church food bank pick ups, and job search. The only advice I have is keep busy, don't lapse into a sedentary lifestyle-it's not healthy. Other than that enjoy life and stop and smell the roses my friend. [Beer]

I would go crazy. Anything you always wanted to do, like start a business? Working at home is a lot easier now with the internet.

Go shooting!
[M2]
Camping! Hiking! Road trip to the state parks!
Got any hobbies or interests?
Congratulations on your retirement! I'm sure you've earned it. As it's been said, please do not fall into a sedentary lifestyle as you could go earlier than you ought too!!
Whatever your hobbies are now have the chance to get your full attention! Learn a new skill, open up your own shop, etc!! Have fun.

I have so many unfinished or unstarted projects to do in my shop that I'll never run out.
I don't know what your skills or interests are but you could volunteer. Local museums can usually use help. My Dad got to be known as a handyman. He helped little old ladies by fixing lamps, painting porches, repairing furniture- all sorts of stuff. He started by asking his pastor at church for stuff to do or people to help. My Mom has done the same kind of thing to find things to help. I knew another guy that helped new business owners. He worked through some local business organization.
My Mom has been going through all her pictures and stuff and making sure they are explained. She writes notes telling stories to go with the pictures or item. If you have kids now is the time to reveal all the fun stories about them. A family biography can be fun to do.
One important thing is to keep involved with younger people. Hanging out with only older people can drag you down.

Good point!
Studies have shown that you really DO "act your age"... although sometimes your age is not biological!
Single children are often considered mature for their age. It is explained by the fact that at home, the majority of their interaction is with adults and the lighter side of life is not explored or imagined. This can lead to a dull childhood and a depressing schooling at the child often finds it hard to make friends. Conversly, it has been found that grandparents or retired people who have constant interaction with younger generations often outlive their expected lifespan and are often incredibly more healthy and active than their peers who only interact with people their own age.
I've always wanted to be the "cool" grandpa....

The ability to keep busy is only limited by your willingness to be involved.
go buy a 4 wheeler and some really nice hiking/camping equipment and enjoy the mountains and everything they have to offer. plenty of shooting in the nat. forest, lots of wildlife to see/hunt, an ATV can get you back quite a ways in most areas without destroying your truck and then you can go in from there.
get into reloading
enjoy some time to yourself[Beer]
Split your time between reading Harry Potter, going to Shotgun Willy's, and playing Call of Duty online.
