I thought one of the perks to getting your CCW was no more background checks when you purchase a weapon?? at the tanner this weekend my brother bought a ruger vaquero and still had to do the background check??

The law was introduced and predictably killed in committee during the last legislative session. If we can get rid of some of the democraps (including Hickenritter), chances are good that it will be passed next session after the election.

To bypass the NICS check, the state's CCW permit needs to be "NICS qualified", which Colorado's is not, since "permanent brady" went into effect in 1999 or so. Prior to that, a Colorado CCW permit was accepted in lieu of the background check.

There have been a few attempts to get the state to make its CCW NICS qualified, but so far the dims have killed it, and/or Ol' Ritter has vetoed it.
