View Full Version : BCG wont stay locked back? BCG doesnt go into battery when eased?

I ask this in another thread but will re-ask here. On my LMT lower I noticed after cleaning that the BCG wont stay locked back. So I was up late and bored so after reading 30k pages and watching a few videos I completely stripped my lower. I had never done it before or built one so it was cool, "to damn easy"! Anyways I checked the catch, spring, detent, lower and I dont see anything going on. No resistance, smooth, clean. So I reassembled it all and still have the same problem. If you lock it back manually it stays unless you turn the rifle, bump it or breath on it then it slams. Also with a mag in its not nearly as bad but still does it. It will lock back but not secure.

So is it more likely the BC catch is worn, or the BC? I dont see any marks or evidence but if the hammer was sprung with the upper off could it bend the catch enough to not catch properly? Now this isnt sloppy loose but the upper doesnt "lock up" as tight as some I have had, possibility? Fix?

EDIT: I tried the "o-ring" trick and it did help the lock up but not the catch problem?

Other problem is when you ease the BCG forward it wont go fully into battery with out an "assist". If you let it slam it goes fine. Anything to worry about? Almost just feels like it is tight going into the gas tube, I just never noticed it on my other AR/M16's?

I just noticed these issues tonight cleaning it. Going to shoot tomorrow for the first time.

Ummm.. this is normal and you shouldn't follow the carrier with the charge handle and let it in slow. You are supposed to let her fly! If you are trying to be stealthy quiet and need to load your gun and follow your carrier with the charging handle you WILL need to use your forward assist after you lock the charging handle.

As far as the bolt hold, some pics would be helpful

So my A2 stock had the longer rifle buffer, when I removed the 1" spacer the stock bolt was hitting the buffer so it wouldnt cycle properly. Damn I gots to get a good collapsable!
