Just got this today from the DOW:

As rifle big game hunting seasons approach, the Colorado Division of Wildlife is alerting hunters to several possible issues they may encounter around the state. While the big game populations are thriving in the state and we anticipate a great fall hunting season, we want to make sure that hunters are prepared for what they might encounter in the field. Our experience shows that the prepared hunter is able to focus on the hunt and is more likely to be successful.

We've added information on our Web site about beetle-killed trees in the northern and central parts of the state as well as information about county and federal fire restrictions that may come about due to current dry weather conditions. Beetle-kill, fires, weather conditions, logging projects and related forest management activities can cause road closures. The US Forest Service and BLM are the agencies in charge of regulating these closures. To help hunters quickly identify important information sources, the DOW has created game management unit maps overlaid with names of forests and BLM areas. In addition, contact information for each agency has been provided.

Please be aware that road closure information is subject to change daily. Be sure to contact the correct BLM and USFS offices not only while you are planning your hunt, but also as close to the day of your hunt as possible to ensure you can gain access to the area you plan to hunt.
