View Full Version : Smart Ass Lucky Deer!
4 week of archery and we see this Muley 4x5 on private property...
Nice looking deer, wish he was on the public land 1/2 mile away
Little jerk runs in front of truck, and stops to eat dinner 25 feet from us.
its almost like they know where there safe and where there not

Saw a nice buck several years back in Unit 79 but coulndn't get a shot. The area had lots of small hills in it and he was mostly on the back side of one from me.
I moved closer and he heard me - bolted and jumed the fence onto private property - the county sheriffs property none the less. He stood 20' on the other side of the fence just watching me.
I moved on about another 300 yards over a few more hills and looked back - he had crossed back over to public land. Again, no shot.
Once again, I moved closer as stealthily as I possibly could. When I got to where I should have been able to see him, he was gone. I looked back onto the sheriffs property and there he was again, about 50' on the other side.
He turned back to look at me and casually walked into the brush further into the private property.
Never saw him again. He sure seemed to know where it was safe.

Yes, they do know where they're safe. We took our son to the Zoo last Sunday and saw several - a buck that was trapped inside the fenceline of the Zoo, a doe and yearling on the drive up to the Shrine, and another doe camped out under the bumper of our truck! Practically had to kick her to get her to move! [Rant1]
One year during deer season we were hunting the Taylor Park area. Decided that we were going to make a trip into town during mid day so we wouldn't miss either morning or evening when hunting is good. Everyone in Buena Vista had 3-5 deer standing in their yard. Does and bucks of every size. Yea I'd say they knew where it was safe.
